I wish they would consider 10 minute infomercials and they would carpet them

That's not really an option on a broadcast channel.

You can either buy 1-3 minute for a commercial break, or you can buy 30 minutes and fill a slot that would have been a syndicated sitcom. If they sell a 10 minute block to you, they have to fill the remaining 20 minutes with something else.

I think that 1-2 minute commercials that are more than sound bytes would be good, too. But, a 30-minute block near prime time, with advance notice, would give interested voters the opportunity to plan for it, or at least record it.

At this point, 30 minute infomercials are targeted at undecided or wavering voters. They don't want to vote for Obama, but are not sure about Romney. This gives Romney the opportunity to talk to them directly, without the filter of Obama's kneepad media.

If he can work hits of the 50s 60s and 70s into the infomercial I will watch it every time. My wife will be so happy.

I thought that Mitt was planning another big speech, like the recent one at the Citadel. That was very effective, got lots of press coverage. Will this infomercial be in place of it?

Because they might be able to pick up an EC vote in Maine, and also to reach northern NH.

exactly, who on this earth is going to find the time to watch this for that long and not know who they are already voting for.

All he has ot do is a two minute one which has no sound and shows the facts like unemployment, food stamps, gas prices etc and then end it with , do you want another 4 years like what we have

Agree completely. 30-second spots are really too short to convey much information, you can do much more with a 2 minute ad.

30 minutes is too long.

I’m beginning to think that the Romney campaign is monitoring your Free Republic postings/recommendations and then making the exact OPPOSITE moves from those that you recommend. The result has been a positively brilliant campaign.

You ask a great question ~ about undecided's attention span ~ and the answer, as always is nobody cares what the undecided, politically illiterate, likely non-voters are thinking ~ best they be kept away from the polls in November anyway.

Now about why Romney and the Mittbots have changed their tack from chasing after undecided and irresolute nonvoters ~ to converting Republicans to the idea that he's a capable candidate worthy of their votes ~

What this means is simple ~ he's finally bought into the approach LBJ, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush and possibly FDR and Richard Nixon used to get elected ~ that is to increase the turnout of your own voting base ~ to wit, Republicans.

That's where it's won in single member districts ~ whether that's state by state, or district by district, you probably have people there who will vote for you and think of you as being in their party, and vice versa. They won't vote if you don't ask them to, and as George HW Bush demonstrated, if you lie to them there are some ~ about 10 million "some" who won't vote for you.

The votes are there if Romney wants them. The votes are there for Obama as well, but they're all Democrats, and there are MILLIONS of them tired of him.

This half hour infomercial is for Republicans, not Democrats. It is designed to increase the Republican turnout. No need stirring up the Democrats who might be motivated to show up and do something unexpected.

I just hope they get the snow ploughed in this area in time for election day so they can open the polls and officially count the votes. This nor'easter could be a game changer.

It’s foolish to run ads in Maine. All that one EV can do is break a 269-269 tie...

Couldn’t 1 EV MAKE a tie that would otherwise be a loss?

Not with the current breakdown of swing states. No combination of those could make Romney come up just one EV short.

However, it is true that Romney would need to avoid a tie in order to avoid the possibility of the Senate remaining Democrat after the election and picking Biden as V.P.

I don't know about that, but one thing we can conclude is that if they're advertising in Maine, then they are conceding the possibility that Ohio could be lost. Because that is the only way a 269-269 tie could result and there is no other reason to go for the Maine vote unless they need to break that tie.

Dish sucks.

Right before Alice Cooper *finally* got inducted into the R&R HOF, they dropped “FUSE” which was the only channel carrying the ceremony.

After pitching a fit and signing petitions for over a decade, there was no way I was gonna miss seeing that.

I cancelled Dish and had DirecTV installed in less than 24 hours.

I can’t believe how much better DirecTV is.

Sorry, that’s not something that “we” can conclude...maybe that’s your conclusion, but it’s not mine. The Chicago massiah’s poll numbers are cratering in a number of states that aren’t traditional battleground states. The Romney campaign is putting on the pressure in many of those states.

I think it’s all leaving Obama and his campaign running around like chickens with their heads cut off. They’re acting like they don’t know what to do or, for that matter, where to do it. I say keep it up—keep the pressure on.

And, by the way, the Republican presidential campaign is proving they can chew gum and do other things simultaneously. They can contend in Maine and and battle in Ohio. So I hope they keep looking at your recommendations and keep doing the opposite of those recommendations. It’s working very well and paying off very well. And your anti-Romney jihad? Well, not so well.
