Republican Colin Powell Endorses Obama

Agence France Presse
October 25, 2012

Former US secretary of state Colin Powell Thursday endorsed President Barack Obama's bid for re-election.

The Republican who used to be chairman of the joint chiefs of staff said, "I voted for him in 2008, and I plan to stick with him in 2012." He spoke in an interview on the CBS program "This Morning."

Powell said that in 2008, the Democrat Obama inherited an economy that was close to depression, with Wall Street in chaos and the housing sector starting to collapse.

Under Obama's leadership, stability has come back to the financial community, housing is picking up and and consumer confidence is rising, although unemployment remains high, among other problems, Powell said.

Also, Obama has protected America from terrorism and wound down the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, he added.

"And so I think we ought to keep on the track that we are on," Powell said.

Powell, himself once widely touted as a prospect for the White House, said his party affiliation has not changed -- but he said he's "a Republican of a more moderate mold," something he said was "a dying breed."

Four years ago, Powell, the first African-American to occupy the top US military post, also came out publicly in support of Obama, who became the first African-American president.

Powell said then he thought "Obama would be a transformational president."

Obama had "met the standard" to lead "because of his ability to inspire, because of the inclusive nature of his campaign, because he is reaching out all across America," he added in 2008.

Obama and Republican rival Mitt Romney are locked in a neck-and-neck race for the November 6 vote.

Turncoat of the year award goes to Colin Powell, a man whose rise through the ranks is directly attributable to GOP presidents.

Question is why does he remain in the GOP if this is where his views are? My guess is that enjoys being the skunk at the picnic and it helps get him on the Sunday morning talk shows.

OK?

PS Powell is a Republican and he is voting for Obama

powell is a liberal to the core. He always was and always will be. He worked against Bush the entire time he was sos and is the main reason things went off the rails in Iraq after they were soundly defeated before the ‘diplomats’ took over and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

There is nothing worse than a traitor and a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Powell is worse than the most partisan demonrat because he continues to falsely identify himself as some type of repubican or moderate. Powell is only slightly better than a Muslim Brotherhood infiltrator, or maybe he is one.

Colin Powell has demonstrated in the last two elections that he is Black first, American second.

And lest anyone claim that I am denigrating General Powell's military service, I would remind that Benedict Arnold was a fearless soldier and George Washington's greatest general. But all of Arnold's prior glory could not atone for his later treason. Twice now, Colin Powell has put the color of his skin before the good of his country.

This story is EXACTLY why those who whine at this site about the Tea Party ruining Republican chances in elections need to wake up. I.e., complaining about Mourdock instead of Lugar in Indiana, etc.

It not only does no good to have a RINO elected it actually hurts more than an actual Democrat because of this very story as it gives cover to liberals they otherwise would not have had (”See even that Republican endorses him, etc).

If not for the Tea Party just think that probably by now (esp judging by his actions since) “Republican” Senator Charlie Crist may very well have endorsed Barack Obama. How badly would that have hurt us, esp in Florida?

To be expected.

If a man lives his entire life as defined by the color of his skin and determined by affirmative action, he would be expected to endorse someone who also lives and can be judged by this standard.

Low bar, lower spark, meaningless opinion.

“Powell, himself once widely touted as a prospect for the White House, said his party affiliation has not changed — but he said he’s “a Republican of a more moderate mold,” something he said was “a dying breed.”

That statement right there proves that Powell is voting for zero solely based on race because the facts are that Romney CERTAINLY governed as a moderate while in office in MA.

Colin Powell, you are a racist.

Well of course Powell endorses Obama. That's how the "game" is played. He's part of the Republican faux opposition ..... the Nomenklatura in order for his son to retain government nipple at the FCC.

He learned at the Pentagon and at State how the game is played.

It's all kabuki theatre and we're the ones paying for the show. F#@k all of these clowns. The only this Romney is going to do different than Obama is kiss us after he sticks it to us.

Yeah, I'm voting for Romney, but in the end it's all about the corrupt congress, the corrupt bureaucracy, and all the little government nooses and shackles that we accept. We'll never get rid of Obamacare, because we won't even be able to get rid of the gestapo-TSA goons.

If you aren't denigrating Powell's service, maybe I can help. I'm sure Powell was a competent soldier, and good enough to make Ranger. But as a general, I must not have been watching the day he achieved glory somewhere. All I saw was a desk-pilot who showed up at press conferences during Gulf War I to blather stupidly take the credit for what Gen. Schwartzkopf was actually achieving.

And don't I recall that it was his idea to let Saddam out of the trap? Let's not insult Arnold's comparatively good name. (But only comparatively.)

Four years ago, he stabbed his friend of 25 years, John McCain, in the back, supposedly out of fear of Sarah Palin being a heartbeat from the Presidency.

Am I to assume this man of supposed intelligence thinks the country is better off with Joe Biden than Paul Ryan in the VP spot? I doubt anyone cares how Colin casts his secret ballot. The limelight basker hopes to extend his 15 min., while publicly helping a person who somewhat matches his skintone.

I’ll say it. Powells military career was a joke. Read his own autobiography. Its him stumbling from race quota assignment to the next. It’s fellowship here, staff there.
When he finally was assigned to a combat division, he was a dismal failure, utterly unqualified. He explains that his commander was to blame.
His crowning achievement (according to him) was the building of a buffalo soldier monument in Kansas.
In the Gulf War, he was a politician in DC.
Everything successful there was Schwartzkopf. Powell impeded him at every turn.

In Vietnam he covered up the Mi Lai atrocity when it was reported to him. When stationed in Korea, made his men repeatedly watch the movie “Brians Song” to help promote racial harmony. Way over half his career was in DC.

He is a military version of Obama. He could speak without a jive accent, and so they perfumed him and sent this little prince on his ride. But he is worthless, and always was.

I encourage everyone to read Powells bio, and then Norman Schwartzkopfs,,, back to back. One is a military bio, filled with combat assignments, and being a true leader. The other is a whining story of racial grievance, as someone who went to Vietnam became a pure politician.

Especially liked the parts where Norman in the gulf war was deeply concerned about battlefield prep, and the lives of our invasion force. Powell wanted to rush over the prep and kick off faster because he feared the diplomatic effort might come to some sort of settlement. He wanted to launch at a time chosen for diplomatic reasons while NOrman only thought of it in military terms.
Powell sucks, always has.

One can hardly blame Powell. His military career and his career in politically appointed jobs in Washington D.C. WAS an “affirmative action” process from start to finish, and he knows it.

He was brite, well spoken, easy going, good listener, good schmoozer, average administrator, but as time went he became a divisive player on the teams he was part of and from start to finish he never was an idea person or a big intellect or thinker.

He was probably more than once an example of the Peter Principle - rising to one’s level of incompetence, but affirmative action held his star in place long after its sunset was due.

If he was - in his own mind - such a positive example of affirmative action, then so too must Obama be one.

I am sure there were always better black officers in the ranks of our military that deserved more than they got, and more than Powell deserved, in terms of public recognition, but then they didn’t have Powell’s political connections.

I remember him telling a story on 60 Minutes that when he first reported to the Army as a 2nd Lt. he had an LBJ sticker on his VW Beetle and some crusty old Sgt. was giving in him hell about it and he decided never to let his political beliefs to be known again.

That story told me all I needed to know about him. He was just following orders from the Pubbies, didn’t really believe it.
