Boeing should have kept this under wraps.

Agreed too.. But 0bama can't destroy America unless our threats know more than we do. Yes, Boeing is to blame for talking about it, but 0bama has set the tone for talking about EVERYTHING which would otherwise be classified in previous administrations.

By the way, can this be countered with ordinary microwave appliances like cellphones triangulated a stealth fighter to be shot down over Bosnia?

There are a couple of possibilities:
1. The wrong people already knew about this through leaks or espionage.
2. This is part of a disinformation campaign — the capabilities of the device are being inflated, to scare (say) Iran, and cause them to mis-allocate defensive resources.

Why should Boeing have kept it under wraps? It’s not like this is new or secret technology. Eureka Aerospace demonstrated similar technology that would allow police to fry an automobile’s electronics from a squad car or helicopter, over 7 years ago.

This is nothing that our enemies weren’t already aware of. This is as groundbreaking as mounting machine guns on biplanes. Everyone knew it was coming long before the guns were mounted on the first plane.
