GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. --

Erica Jameson is questioning just how safe she truly is in her own neighborhood.

"It scares me living so close and it kind of makes me scared to come out and get on the bus," Erica Jameson said.

And she's not alone.

"My son was right close by getting his hair cut he could have walking down the street or something," Barbara Resmond said.

Deputies say an employee inside Precision Automotive saw two men with a gun walk in. That's when the employee pulled out his gun and shot and killed one of the suspects. Deputies heard what happened and rushed in arresting the other suspect.

You’re hearing more about gun owners defending themselves. It's incidents like this that have people ready to pack heat.

"It makes you want to get some more protection for yourself," Jameson said.

I have to wonder why the reporter thought this information was relevant to the story.
Good job to the employee for being aware of his situation and being prepared to respond.

I hope this is typical slipshod reporting and that there really was a good reason to suspect that the men were there to rob the store.

The writer seems to suggest that people are safer if they just lie down during an attack and hope for the best. If this were so we could make the police safer by taking their weapons. If the police won’t agree to this, why should I? Why should anyone?

I did notice a somewhat different complexion to this story than the typical reporter drivel. You can now almost rate sentences (and two sentence paragraphs) by being opinion, ‘filler’, anti-gun, factual, or gun-friendly.

1) Filler. Adds nothing to the story. High crime area.

2) Filler quote.

3) Opinion.

4) Filler quote.

5) Factual, outside of the verb “rushed”.

6) Opinion, tending to anti-gun.

7) Filler quote.

8) Filler quote.

9) Unrelated but pro-gun filler.

10) Unrelated but pro-gun filler quote.

11) Filler quote.

Kind of makes you want to say the old Jack Webb statement to the reporter: “Just the facts, Ma’am.” Since they had almost none, they puffed the story with unrelated b.s.
