In 4 years, Obama has done little to push DC voting rights, local government autonomy [PUNKED!]

President Barack Obama carried the nation’s capital in 2008 with 92 percent of the vote, and some local activists hoped he would push to give the District of Columbia representation in Congress and more autonomy in local affairs.

Four years later, nothing has changed...

Obama hasn’t met with Mayor Vincent Gray since a lunch in late 2010, before the mayor took office, and the president hasn’t invited Gray to the State of the Union address, a courtesy sometimes extended to district mayors....

Although Obama has said when asked that he supports representation and greater autonomy for the district, his most forceful words on a local matter were a dagger to the heart of local leaders: “John, I will give you D.C. abortion.” That’s what he said to House Speaker John Boehner during negotiations that ended a budget impasse in April 2011, according to published reports of the meeting.

That concession meant that the city could no longer spend local tax dollars on abortions for poor women, something it has done when Democrats have controlled the House, Senate and presidency. It led to a protest outside the Capitol in which Gray was arrested.

Obama said the Bush Administration’s adding $4 trillion to the deficit was irresponsible. He said he would cut the $10 trillion deficit in half during his first term. He also said if he couldn’t get it done he would be a 1 term president.

He gets away with this?

They should somehow give DC back to Maryland, for voting purposes. Then DC voters would have voting representation in the House and Senate. No way should they make it a state of its own, with 2 permanent liberal Democrat senators.

It’s worse then that!!! Obama could care less about Black Americans!!! However....when Obama loses the POTUS, American Blacks are really going to be in nowhere land, politically & economically for the next fifty years!!! Political obscurity and economic slave plantation life on the Obama turf, chosen by your own hand and vote is not smart, no matter how you try to justify it!!! American Blacks will sink themseves, once again, politically by giving any support to Obama, the NAACP & the CBC!!! Fools!!!

DC is already overrepresented. It is the seat of national power. This tiny enclave north of the Potomac has a corrupt local government and a population that varies from welfare queens to Georgetown’s white liberal effete snobs.

If any Washingtonians think themselves under represented then they can move somewhere outside the shadow of the capital dome.
