Honestly, I dont understand what all the fuss is about.
In a Tuesday night debate, Richard Mourdock, the Indiana Republican running for the U.S. Senate made what turned out to be a controversial statement about abortion.
I struggled with it myself for a long time, he said, but I came to realize that life is that gift from God. And I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.
Mourdock made the horrible mistake of telling the truth about what he believes. He actually believes that abortion is murder. And he actually believes that God creates life.
All hell has broken loose among his fellow Republicans. They are twisting themselves into pretzels trying to criticize him and support their Christian beliefs at the same time. Mitt Romney, who has a campaign ad out supporting Mourdock, has said that Mourdocks remarks were not in line with his views. His Democratic opponent, Rep. Joe Donnelly, who supports abortion in cases of rape or incest, came down on him as did Sen. John McCain.
Donnelly said, The God I believe in and the God I know most Hoosiers believe in, does not intend for rape to happen, ever. What Mr. Mourdock said is shocking and it is stunning that he would be so disrespectful of survivors of rape. Weve yet to hear from Rep. Paul Ryan whose positions on abortion are so convoluted nobody knows what he believes any more.

The news media use abortion like a sledge hammer.
Male Republican candidates sometimes fail to properly express themselves and then they’re dumped on by party members, which is doubly STUPID and self defeating.
There is nothing wrong with Mourdocks beliefs. Whts important to note is that he was emotional when answering the question during the debate. That influenced his answer and choice of words. He clarified his personal beliefs the following day. His statements were consistent to wht he has believed all along.
The left jumped all over this and shows who they are and what they believe. A fetus can’t vote for them neither can it donate money therefore it is worthless to them. The dems are showing how ghoulish they really are.
Sounds like good Catholic thought. But where are is the support from those Bishops who have been quick to the political front this year?
My God knew that rape would happen after humans fell and He may turn evil for good.
Democrats think all babies who result from rape should be executed. Having known two people who began life in this tragic way, but who have become wonderful human beings, I know that God can grant his blessing to those whose mothers did not kill them for someone else’s crime.
Quinn brings up a good point and addresses it towards pro-lifers but fails to similarly address it to pro-choicers. She said that if life is sacred from conception then allowing a fetus to be killed because of the way in which it was conceived is no different than allowing a 2-year-old to be killed because of the way in which it was conceived.
She needs to bring up the same point to pro-choicers and ask them if they support a woman’s right to kill a 2-year-old because of the way that child was conceived.
Quinn’s whole point seems to be that in order to get the vote of women, you have to approve child-killing. And it’s a valid point which the women of this country need to answer. To get the women’s vote, does a politician have to condone child-killing?
If so, that is a very sad indictment of women. Period.
I support Mourdock like I did for Todd Akin.
I do wonder, why a lot of the PhonyCons who tried to force out Akin....have no problems with supporting Mourdock? Is it the Akin was a super-solid conservative...and Mourdock really is not? Being more conservative than Dick Lugar is not exactly an Earth-shattering development
Just sent him ANOTHER $100
Not only is this going to loom over mourdock’s head until election day, it also legitimizes the media whores reopening akin’s chapter on rape.
Maybe there is a lurking Bradley effect that will let them squeak by, but good money is on them paying for their stupidity.
The whole notion that anything good can come from rape is going to be lost on the mealy middle and most women voters. Parsing words and amplifying what they “really meant” will not unscrew their own screwing.
These two knuckle heads may have to learn the hard way.
The media always looks at the elections from a prism different from the “common peasants” ( note the quotes ).
They think that women are going to vote mainly because of what a candidate thinks about abortion, incest and conception after rape.
They ought to go out and REALLY ask women what the most important issue is to them....
Here’s a hint — It’s the same as most people — THE ECONOMY.
If someone’s husband is out of work and she can’t a job herself and neither can their recently graduated kids, do you think they are going to vote because someone made ONE SINGLE STATEMENT that a rape conception is God’s will and then totally ignore his economic policies?
Not every woman thinks like Maureen Dowd you know...
I hope you’re right. Most times when I assume the voters will be using logic, they let me down.
It’s the true undecideds that I picture filling out their ballot while thinking...gee, I heard “bad” things about Romney/Republicans so I’ll vote for the other choice.
However, I first blame the fools that try to polish the rape turd, and then the media.
