A Riverside woman is facing misdemeanor charges following her arrest for speaking too long at a Riverside City Council meeting, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reported Thursday.

Karen Wright, whose arrest was videotaped and obtained by the paper, was cited for disrupting a public meeting Tuesday night.

“The incident unfolded after Wright exceeded her allotted three minutes to speak at the lectern while commenting on a sludge hauling contract,” the paper reported.

Wright, 60, was initially handcuffed by two officers while she was on her knees.

...a sludge hauling contract

Who would have thought sludge hauling contracts could inspire such passion!

I’ve seen meetings like this get out of hand because some tard thinks they’re above the rules and the council chair is too weak to enforce it.

You can be the next meeting will go smoothly.

What about the other serfs who were waiting to speak?
What about the other serfs who wanted to hear about or comment on other agenda items?

Perhaps ejecting her would have been more appropriate IF she was out of line.

(I find it highly suspect they shut off the recording during this interaction)

There are numerous examples of these tin-god nobody politicians exceeding their authority like this nationwide, do a simple search.

Or do you agree that arresting this woman was the right course of action?

If so, you are the problem not the solution.

Politicans are NOT our masters. We must reverse this slavish line of thinking in the land of the 'free.'

Did they say, “Ma’am, you have to sit down now; your time is up?”

Did they then say, “Ma’am, if you don’t sit down, you’ll be arrested?”

I rather suspect they did, and that she was agitated and kept trying to talk.

These council and planning board meetings are boring beyond belief. You can’t let people go on at length. They should prepare at home to get their point made in three minutes; they should team up with others if there are further points exceeding three minutes.

Well, I don’t know anybody clamoring for our “masters”, but we do have RULES. Of course, maybe she should have been allowed to filibuster for the entire duration of the meeting? After all, she has a right to make HER isse the ONLY issue to be addressed. No other citizens need speak as long as The Queen has the floor.

Really. This isn’t an example of “jack-booted thugs”, slaves or masters. This is about rules and decorum. She was given her opportunity to say her peace, and she decided that she had the right to bring this meeting to a screeching halt while she pontificated, abridging the rights of other citizens to speak and be heard.

Yes. If a person is breaching the peace and will not obey legal commands in such an environment, she SHOULD HAVE BEEN ARRESTED. Same thing in a courtroom, or do you not recognize a judge’s authority in that venue, as well?

You have no proof they did anything at all , all we know is they arrested her for speaking. government is evil at all levels. They have no right to tell us what to do besides a few basic laws (think the 10 commandants, constitution, bill of rights, and add a few pages and that's it) they have no right . No man , no government has any right to tell a person what to do. that is something called liberty , freedom or individual rights.

...she SHOULD HAVE BEEN ARRESTED

Considering this was a CITY COUNCIL MEETING, your straw man about a judge is completely irrelevant.

You are wrong, but are one of those 'tards' who will continue to argue once you've shown to be a total ass.

You are the wrong side of the argument, coming down on the side of nanny state rule keepers.

You couch your argument in tones of 'order' but you are the type of 'citizen' who lays down and licks your masters boots.

Thanks for outing yourself.
