On the heels of the Des Moines Register’s endorsement, Mitt Romney snagged endorsements today from the three other major Iowa papers: the Cedar Rapids Gazette, the Quad City Times, and the Sioux City Journal. Economic issues tipped the balance here, and the Gazette captured the sentiment expressed in all four endorsements:

Very nice. I don’t know about the other newspapers but the DMR endorsement was a big shocker to Iowans and good for us. ;)

Wow. Still can’t believe this!
I know a lot of boneheads who believe everything in the paper and this will definitely influence them.
On another note, RR will be here tomorrow and I plan to see them with my kids.

I was shocked to see the Register’s endorsement online last night. I wouldn’t have believed the Quad City Time’s except that I read it with my own eyes this morning. They’ve been unreadably pro-Obama for four years. I trust Obama filed a missing persons report. I hope the regular editors don’t get rescued until after the polls close; but I do want them there the day after. I want schadenfreude!

Good news for these Iowa eyes and ears but, ... At some point, editorial boards have to consider the hands that feed them.

So, given the state of the print media these days, is it possible the Register et. al. saw this as necessary to placate their few remaining subscribers?

I just don't envision the 47% buying many newspapers (let alone any advertising space in them).
