As Hurricane Sandy approaches, the New York Stock Exchange said it plans to shut its trading floor Monday and shift all trading to an electronic exchange.

NYSE Euronext said it made the decision Sunday after public officials declared a state of emergency in the New York area and issued evacuation orders near the exchange's trading floor. Earlier in the day, NYSE officials had vowed to stay open.

The company said all NYSE-listed securities would be traded on NYSE Arca, its fully electronic exchange. Electronic trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market is expected to proceed as usual Monday

A few hours ago they said it was going to be business as usual.

Looks like “Mr. Stand-down” will only stand up when something covers his own a$$.

It was 3:00pm in Washington, so he must have been awake.

4:00pm seems to be after his beddie-bye time.

Great...so now skynet gets control of the financial world for the day. Alogs going at it all day long while an October hurricane heads for the northeast...sounds like a plot for a movie...and not a good one.

Good thing the Yankees didn't make it into the World Series. The Giants would really be under pressure to end it in four to get out of town before the hurricane.

Plus a Giants-Yankees series would have been deja vu all over again...whereas the Giants and Tigers have never faced each other in the World Series before this year.

Most of us can already do our jobs without putting our shoes on. I have a solution to traffic jams - have people who can, work out of their homes. No commute. No traffic jams. Unless you physically need to be someplace, fire up your laptop and your smartphone and get to work while still in your pajamas!
