We’ve never heard of mandatory evac of the Jersey Shore- have had family there since before the ‘thirties.

NYers do respect weather. Everyone I’ve spoken with today is getting ready for this thing. Liberals sounding like preppers; they’ve been through some of these. The Ice Storm ‘78 (the dogs were shivering by the time the lights went back on - I think it was 2 weeks of freezing temps).

Have a sister named after a hurricaine. She’s spoiled with a generator in Conn. hoping she doesn’t have to resort to firewood, it’ll mean no running water.

Beaches are already flooding in NJ. From AC to Barnegat all able bodied sons were out today “battening down hatches”; otherwise deserted.

I remember that ice storm — MAN was that a cold winter! Little Neck Bay froze solid from Douglaston (where I lived) all the way out past the Kings Point lighthouse. (That’s as far as we could see from the seawall at the point — it could have been frozen much further.)

Some nutty friend of mine rode his bike from the Douglaston Dock, past Stepping Stones in Great Neck, and around the Kings Point lighthouse. He told us that as he rounded the lighthouse, The Merchant Marine Academy middies were on the dock screaming at him to come off the ice, but he just calmly rode back all the way home. EPIC!

One more thing about that ice storm, though: It made my tree-laden neighborhood absolutely gorgeous. It was a like a winter fairyland, and the sledding was top notch!

Regards,
