can't argue with them, yet... there's trash everywhere and for people not working, well, it's not like they don't have the time to pick it up

Having lived in Chicago for a number of years I will say I take umbrage at your comment. You must understand Chicago is a VERY racist city and when you take a group of people, any people and treat them like animals then simple things to you like community upkeep is not high on the agenda. Not when you want to work and you jump through all the hoops to get there only to have to door slammed in your face.

I remember living in the city (not the suburbs)and having my best friend while in Vocational School come into my neighborhood, and he was black. All of the curtains that had remained closed for years suddenly swept open at this “interloper” It was a real eye opener to me and integration of neighborhoods is not the norm. Once a new race moves into an established neighborhood the flight starts, be it White, Black, Mexican, Puerto Rican, whatever. It is one of the most racially polarized cities I have ever been to and I have traveled much of the world.

The Republican party is stronger in state politics than in City and Chicago has been under the thumb so long that people have grown used to it, numb to it and regardless of color they are still Democratic in their mindset. Couple that with a strong system of patronage and you have a town that self enforces a strong yet silent death grip on life. As one of the respondents said, Illegals are even favored over blacks, regardless of training or anything.

I personally believe we are all Gods children and that the day comes when the citizens of Chicago wake up and realize they are being choked to death by Liberalism and The Democratic Political Machine that has ruled there for so long. It has been built to survive all but a nuclear blast and I am not sure what can be done to change things but I know deep in my heart and soul that these people do want change.

So make all the snide comments you want about trash in the streets, until you live there and have nothing but death and despair around you 24X7 and no hope you will never get it. It will not happen overnight as the Democratic Machine is very powerful, but where there is a will there is a way.
