Why did he call him a creep if he was a friend? I wasn’t listening to the show that day. Thank you.
A caller remarked that he remembered Savage from the days when he (Savage) filled in for Wattenburg -- Savage immediately interjected "I never filled in for that creep." That is what it sounded like to me.
Savage has often spoke of how Dr. Wattenburg -- a fellow PhD -- encouraged him and helped him deal with the flak he (Savage) caught from the liberals at KGO where Savage began his career in radio as a fill in. Sister station KSFO was just beginning all conservative and Savage was quickly welcomed there with his own show.
Savage can "turn on a dime." I recall his days in the late 1990s when he was a friend of Joseph Farah of WND. Then one day Savage got very angry at Farah and I remember Farah asking the KSFO morning show hosts (Farah was a regular guest of Lee Rodgers and Melanie Morgan), "What's with Savage, why is he angry at me?"
Well neither cared to offer any opinion why. Savage's co hosts avoided commenting about Savage who rarely attacked them personally but regularly claimed total credit for KSFO's success. In those days KSFO was live and local except for CoastToCoastAM at night.
As for Farah everything appears to be OK now.. I think Savage was angry that WND had stolen one of his sayings and not credited him. I recall Savage complaining about it but no mention of Farah.. just WND.
As for Dr. Wattenburg if there is a rift and it pertains to something professional and not behind-the-scenes personal it could similar or Wattenburg apparently is no longer a once-a-week, late-night radio personality on KGO San Francisco but now is a competitor with a national audience at TRN. I believe.
If there is a rift and it is personal it could be that Dr. Wattenburg did not openly support Savage's dispute with TRN.
