My lights flickered at several points today. I just looked up at the ceiling fixture and held my breath. Very fortunately, the flickers stopped without further incident. I hope there are no more threats to my power. We have underground power lines here and are on higher ground.

All things considered, you're lucky to have power.
Hope it stays on for you.

Those buildings have generators for backup.

For some reason Times Square attracts what I would call “nuts”. When it snows and the area has blizzard like conditions, there will be a crowd. Manhattan and Rockaway as well as Staten Island were hit hard. I hope your children are safe. But it will be awhile before mass transit and lights will get back to some semblance of normalcy.

You clearly know what you are talking about. Even at 11pm here last night (1 am ET), there were still tons of people down there just standing around. I just saw Jimmy Fallon on the weather channel doing his show with no audience. Seems like all those Times Square people could have gone. ;-)
Agree on the subway system, too. I heard a transit authority official last night say that they have to inspect 600 miles of subway before they can reopen it.

Thank you. It did indeed stay on. But now we have NO subways, no buses, no airports open, several hospitals closed/evacuated, schools closed (YAHOO!! I'm a teacher...), massive flooding of lower Manhattan and The Rockaways, fires, at least 10 deaths in NYC alone, thousands without power, etc. I count myself extremely lucky that the worst that happened here was staying inside on a very windy rainy day. Some scary big THUMPS of things Unknown in the night, but I saw no evidence of what they may have been come daylight. Because we had a 2010 tornado right exactly in my neighborhood, most of the weak tree limbs were already torn off or trimmed off after the tornado. Thus, there are only a few limbs on my immediate street. I have not yet been outside; I received several robo-calls from the Office of Emergency Management (including one at midnight and one at 3:00 a.m.!!) telling me to stay home. Yeah, I'm gonna hop out of bed at 3:00 a.m. and go outside. All in all, it was horrible for other people and I feel for them.

QUESTION: Where the hell was OBAMA? Has he visited the affected areas? Absolutely not; talk is CHEAP. A puny pale imitation of a leader.

Trust all is well with you, your family and friends. No intent was meant to be snarky...I’m a native New Yorker..lived and worked in the city and burbs all my life, until a few years ago..both my daughters, and their families are in Westchester, and I have many friends having a miserable time with the storm, and the aftermath..

You’ve got that right.

Aside from the contagious diseases that are very apt to go epidemic in the contaminated environment and densely populated area, you’ve got this to contend with:

http://www.naturalnews.com/037756_looting_Hurricane_Sandy_armed_resistance.html

I have a feeling that LE will be more concerned with protecting Eric Hole-Duh’s cherished “people” from reluctant victims than they will be in protecting less favored populations (if you get my drift) from being raped, looted, plundered, beaten and murdered by pillaging (and probably well armed) mobs.

When the crack and blow supply dries up you are really going to see some urban unrest!

How long do you think the elections are going to be “postponed” so as to avoid disenfranchising Obama’s constituency currently trapped in their section 8 high rises?
Getting some of those 500 pounders 65 stories down the stairs with the elevators out is going to be a lark.
Are their toilets plugged up yet?

I sure am glad I ain’t there! Prayers with you if you are.

Glad to hear it! Some on FR automatically dump on NYC b/c of the politics. My kids are OK. They don’t have power but are safe and have food that will get them through it. I heard it’s going to be 4 days before power is restored to the underground line served areas. Egads. What a mess.
Hope your friends and family are OK, too. My nephew in Brooklyn (near Prospect Park) has power and internet. Sounds like Heaven!
