Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan scheduled "storm relief" events Tuesday after previously canceling planned campaign rallies.
Romney will attend an event in Kettering, Ohio, Tuesday morning with race car driver Richard Petty and country music artist Randy Owen. He had previously scheduled a campaign rally at the same site with Petty, Owen, and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Tuesday afternoon, but later scrapped the campaign events out of deference to those in the path of Hurricane Sandy.
The Romney campaign did not advise what the event would entail, but a Republican source indicated attendees would be asked to bring disaster relief supplies to the event, and that Romney might give brief remarks.
Ryan, who was originally scheduled to campaign Tuesday in Colorado, instead returned home to Wisconsin on Monday night. On Tuesday afternoon, Ryan will drop by a Romney campaign office in La Crosse, where he will thank volunteers gathering or donating items for storm release efforts. Later in the evening, Ryan is scheduled to stop at another campaign office in Hudson, again thanking supporters.
Romney's wife, Ann, will also be visiting a trio of campaign offices in Iowa on Tuesday for storm relief collection efforts. The aspiring first lady will then begin campaigning again with a rally in Des Moines planned for Tuesday evening; neither her husband nor Ryan is expected back on the campaign trail until Wednesday.

I have seen this posted on CNN, Politco, and several other national sources. But it will get attention from the local media in those swing states. Which is all that matters at this point.
And besides, it is the right thing to do. I suspect RR will crank it back up on Wednesday. Obama hasn’t really shut down. Bill and Biden still were campaigning on Monday and have several events today.
We have Mormon friends and they’re extremely proficient and organized when it comes to charitable assistance to those in need. I figure the MSM will spin that Romney is doing it for attention or something when the truth is, that’s what Mormons do all the time. They’re always there for each other, and reach out to others as well; an organized machine is in place and it’ll be good.
Relief effort for what? This hurricane barely showed up. Geez, I live in NY and can tell you that I have seen many thunderstorms and blizzards do way worse that this.
national media is all about covering this storm in NJ and NY and to hell witht he rest of the country, I see they;re not in WV an dother places which are being hit right now.
The local media however will pick this event up and that wil be good in OH , IO, WI and then he needs to get to VA

I agree with you. Gov. Christie seemed apoplectic when the Fox morning anchors asked if Romney would come tour the NJ damage. And then he went on and on with praise BHO for calling him three times yesterday.
If there’s anything I’ve learned about media coverage, it’s that they will make any good thing Republicans do seem disingenuous.

Mrs. RQSR works for a Mormon owned company for past 35 years. I had just sent her a copy of the excerpt, and wondering to her in the email as to whether the principal would be involving himself in this effort with Romney, and company.
There is no doubt in my mind that he quietly will be very involved.

In politics perception is everything. Mr. Romney cannot appear to be the heartless campainer while Mr. Obama gets to play POTUS. The perception will affect voters.
And the Obamaphone "folks" will totally fall for it!

I thought Christie was unnecessarily rude to the FNC hosts about Romney. He was trying to come off as concerned for his city but one doesn't have to be rude to do that.

Very good move. We The People will not have their hands out begging Obama for help.
We The People will be helping each other and saying goodbye to trickle down government.
You can’t postpone it.
Impacted states could find ways to accommodate voters...printed ballots or something....but you have to have the election.
That’s why they are going to be having poll sites as top-priority power restoration locations.
I would be fine with opening up absentee balloting a bit in the impacted states as well, even if that hurts us a little.
But, I do not believe you can legally postpone the election. It’s in the U.S. Code as that day and that’s it.
It’s not hard to fix. As long as county governments have more available generators than there are polling places, no one will have any cause for complaint when the election takes place as planned Nov. 6. It’s a week from now.
If Obama really cared about the victims of the hurricane he would stay home and let Romney/Ryan do all the campaign speeches. Romney/Ryan have shown that they can attract much bigger crowds from which can collect much more money for relief aid.
And I was thinking the whole time... Thank God we don't believe, as President Obama believes, that we should all hate each other and despise each other simply because we are in different tax brackets and economic situations. His message doesn't sell in our neighborhood!
Same thing here after Hurricane Ike (2008) in Houston. After surveying the damage, I grabbed my chainsaw, accessories, and started helping neighbors clear trees. (We were lucky, the only tree down was in the back yard, and while it did damage a corner of my back porch, it was not something that needed immediate attention.

I’m in Gatineau Quebec, and we just experienced pretty high winds. I was out at 6:30 this morning taking out the garbage (I didn’t want to leave it out overnight so stuff would go flying all over the place). My neighbor across the street was out with his chain saw, removing downed trees. He said hi and good morning; I offered to help but he smiled and said he was pretty much done.
I had a huge smile on my face and have been in a great mood since. People pitching in for each other is really uplifting; adverse events can bring out the best in people.
Or sometimes not, as we saw with Katrina.
My prayers are with all those affected.
