Actually, everyone WAS initially saying that New Orleans had dodged the bullet. They thought Katrina was going to make a direct hit as a category 3, and they weren’t sure the levees would hold. But then, Katrina made a swing to the east of New Orleans, putting it on the less powerful side of the hurricane.
And then, after the hurricane passed, the levee broke and flooded the 9th Ward.
But seriously, only a complete clueless idiot would belittle the Jersey Shore getting flooded and the widespread impact on the lives of those who live and work there that such represents.
And third, just how is being realistic about what happened helping Obama? If anything, a jerk like you posting on a conservative website makes us look bad.
Says the fake tough guy on the anonymous website. Josh Watts, is this you?
I thought his RNC speech actually hurt Romney..he doesnt know when to stop talking
Yeah, the election is in a week, now is the time to start praising Obozo! Never mind how much damage he has done to this country! -- he called me three times yesterday!
The last go around the govt bought out a lot of properties that were in a flood plain. Now in my area, they haul in 3 feet of dirt to build on the flood plan and cause that water to flood other properties.
But what many Americans may not know is that this $1.3 billion was a bill footed by the federal government, which underwrites the vast majority of flood insurance across the nation. Historically, insurance companies have been wary of offering flood insurance to homeowners because the risks associated with flood insurance are difficult to forecast, so any private insurance that had been offered was prohibitively expensive for average homeowners.
What else is obama going to say?...'Not I will not allocate relief money to Jew Jersey, a possible Romney state?" Obama did not do something deserving of great credit. He took other peoples money and is redistributing it to people who did not earn it. Fine. That is what we Americans would do. But give 'credit' to the Americans who actually provide the money which obama spreads around for his own political advancement.
I saw him on FOX this morning and the guy was bad tempered and arrogant.
He needs to understand there is an election and it is not just about him, this is about the country and him praising bozo the clown is only going to help bozo and him not Romney , or the country.
As for the storm, yes it was storm but hardly storm of the decade, talk about hype .The NY/NJ is not all of America, it;s part of America
The One deceived voters in 2008. He promised this would be the moment in history when the oceans receded. WTF is this storm surge about? He didn’t mention any storm surge before the end of his term.
The point is the subsidized insurance is available. there should be no further govt involvement.
My point was that flood damage does not represent a liability for private insurers, hence the bulk of the damage from this storm does not represent a liability to them.
Really? You can't?
If Romney loses, Christie instantly becomes the front runner for 2016. If Romney wins, Christie will probably never be President.
Thanks for your perspective: with Cristie as a major spokesman for Romney, this statement really is the best way to avoid “playing politics” with the storm. That, plus the earlier poster’s observation that “Christie has a tendency to over-exaggerate.” which for clarity I would modify as: “Christie has a tendency to super-mountain-over-exaggerate with far over-the-top rhetorical excesses.”, has reversed my initial reaction to his “great credit”.
Most people who know Christie will read this as “Obama did his job for a change.” People who are enemies of Christie will put this statement in ads that others will laugh at regarding the ability for Christie to show his enemies’ gullibility.
Right now, Christie has more to be concerned about than his left-leaning electorate. It seems clear that there are persons who may still be in need of rescue from life-threatening areas, and some communities needing resources to do that.
What Christie said is what ANY governor of a devastated state would say. SMART. He knows the election is in the bag for Romney anyway, so this won’t hurt Romney or him one bit. Prayers out for all those who are in such dire situations right now in the NY/NJ area.
I do agree after thinking some more that Christie took it too far, but he was trying to avoid appearing negative in this situation.
Right movie, but he has gone too far with it.
Well, it’s hard, even for an accomplished liar like POTUS, to deny a hurricane. So he did what he was supposed to...does he get an award for that? POTUS shoveled out money (ours) and went into his hidey-hole, sucking his thumb.
