Skip to comments. How Romney, Obama do in California may tip scales in close House, state races

Tony Krvaric knew he wasn't going to get much help from the national presidential campaign in his effort to get people to the polls to boost local GOP candidates to victory.
So the San Diego County Republican Party chairman spent more than $15,000 on Mitt Romney bumper stickers, lawn signs and other campaign swag to motivate voters and volunteers.
"There's a lot of enthusiasm for Romney and Ryan, and I want to tap into that," Krvaric said. "That will help all my local candidates."
No matter what happens nationally, the presidential race is all but decided in California, with President Barack Obama maintaining a double-digit lead in the polls. Yet how well the rivals perform could tip the scales in the state's most competitive congressional and legislative races.
The narrower Obama's win in the state, the better for GOP candidates on the rest of the ballot. An electorate that resembles the voter makeup in 2008 could boost down-ticket Democrats.

The CAGOP is on the verge of extinction.
A strong Romney in CA could strengthen their presence in Congress and in the CA statehouse.
Prop 32 is going to get every union goon and all their leeching relatives into the ballot booth.
But everyone with a brain will want to show up and vote NO on Prop 30.
Could be interesting.
I mean a strong Romney showing.
So the SacBee wants to pretend that CA matters. Nice try, but the ignorant Leftists, welfare parasites and illegal aliens will just have to sweat out the prospects of no bailout should the voters of other sane states vote Obummer out of office.
Hey, Kalifornia—Go ahead and vote for your own destruction. I really don’t care.
But everyone with a brain will want to show up and vote NO on Prop 30.
Even some with no brain. There is a HUGE taxpayer revolt in this state. Even Dems are saying “enough is enough.”
Hey Arm_Bears, we don't care what you think either.
The GOP is on its way out in CA as the Dems control all the levers of power and become the permanent majority party. Kalifornia is finished. Forewarned is being forearmed.
Yeah I get it, we're DOOOOOOMED. I've been around FR long enough to know we are universally hated among the deep red states.
Despite the political rot, California is still an awesome place to live and home to some great companies. How many of you are typing on Macs or using iPhones out there? Do you enjoy Pixar movies? I know some of you think Disney is the great Satan, but I love it and it's still a great place to take the family for a good time (spare me your gay days diatribe, please.).
Can you swing a dead cat and smack a liberal without trying? Of course and probably bring the wrath of PETA down at the same time. But hey, I'm blessed with a great job, we live in one of the most beautiful places on earth, we have great wine, we love our church and still get to enjoy full size Big Gulps at 7-11.
So hey, get off your stinkin' high horses and quit damning the entire state to hell. /rant
Now, excuse me while I go outside and enjoy another sunny, 70 degree, late October day.
We don' need no steenkin' high horses!
How many of you are typing on Macs
Not me. HP with Sabayon Linux.
or using iPhones out there?
Nope, Samsung here.
Do you enjoy Pixar movies?
My family tried to show me "Finding Nemo" (for example). I slept through most of it, and never have seen it all. Probably never will.
I know some of you think Disney is the great Satan
Guilty as charged. (Both me and them!)
(I'm just messing with ya. My mother was brought up in CA and I know she would have loved to go back there, since I heard about it all my life. But she is now in a better place.)
I’ll second your remarks FightforFreedomCA. It’s 85 here in the desert today, flowers and palm trees gently swaying in the breeze. Mountains are majestically clear and I have to decide which of 103 golf courses I want to play before choosing which of hundreds of fantastic restaurants to eat at tonite (outside). We meet people from all over the world virtually every day that think this is paradise...and it is!
(KA will return to CA in the not too distant future..some house cleaning that more and more are realizing).
The iPhone is made in China by child labor. Apple can relocate anywhere it wants--and will. I remember once a quote by Alexander King, the author, not the comedian. He said that California was a place you could rot and not feel it.
I lived a couple of years in San Diego, 1965-67. Great place then. But now California has become Mexifornia per Victor Davis Hanson. I am not "damning the entire state to Hell." You have done that all by yourself.
No, not me FRiend - I vote conservative every time. Yes, Apple may relocate and so might I someday, but I tire of the endless condescension from the outside. Not trying to get into a pissing fight with you about Cali. There are too many things about the politics here that are indefensible, but that doesn't mean there aren't conservative individuals and families living here who still believe in and love this great country. And BTW, from what I've heard, Prop 30 is looking like it's going down in flames, so maybe a few Democrats are getting sick of all the new taxes as well.
I have no doubt that is the case, but this is about the state and the political and fiscal direction it is taking. CA is bankrupt. Its welfare systems and willingness to encourage illegal immigration by rewarding it cannot be sustained. Just as is now happening in Greece, reality has to intrude. It is inevitable. And the people in charge politically are such ideologues that they are incapable of changing nor is the majority of voters. CA is well on its way to becoming a one party state. You can expect the Rep congressional delegation to get smaller and smaller.
CA has the demography of what the US will look like in 2050. Today in CA one in four residents is foreign born (27%), two out of five are Hispanic (40%). Non-Hispanic whites are 39% of the population. 43% of the population speak a language other than English at home. The K-12 education system is one of the worst in the nation. It has one of the worst unemployment rates in the country. When I lived in CA in the 1960s, CA was the nation's leader in almost every respect. No longer is that the case.
And BTW, from what I've heard, Prop 30 is looking like it's going down in flames, so maybe a few Democrats are getting sick of all the new taxes as well.
Without the additional revenue, how are the cuts going to be made? CA will be headed towards more and more austerity measures that will just hasten the death spiral. You can bet there will be people in the streets depending on what constituencies are hurt. It will hurt employment and the economy as government spending is reduced. This is the Hobson's choice that bankrupt government's have when forced to live within their means. There are no win-win solutions anymore.
