This article backs up my post to another thread on another matter yesterday in which I posted:

Good one, Boreock! My friend in NJ told me the internet and cell service died right away. They have electricity but that won’t get you on the net.
It’s just like the government to tell people to use the Internet when they know that most likely there will be No Power and No Telecommunications capability as the wires are lieing in the streets.
Dumb.
No power, no cable, no phone, no help.
This is a great example of looking to Washington DC to take care of you rather than having a culture of local self sufficiency. DC does not know the details of what is happening locally. Town hall or the Mayor does. Neighbors often know, too.
We had a power outage in our small town due to multiple transformer failures this morning. It's amazing how many "new" people were outside after that happened.
