Obama Will View Hurricane Damage in New Jersey with Gov. Christie

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Obama will travel to New Jersey tomorrow to view the destruction wrought by Hurricane Sandy on the state. Scheduled to appear with Governor Chris Christie, Obama has suspended personal appearances at campaign events to respond to the storm.

Speaking at the Red Cross headquarters in Washington today, Obama said his thoughts and prayers were with those who lost loved ones in the devastating hurricane, which has claimed at least ten lives in New York City alone.

“Obviously this is something that is heartbreaking for the entire nation,” he said, “And we certainly feel profoundly for all of the families whose lives have been upended, and are going to be going through some very tough times over the next several days, perhaps the next several weeks and months. The most important message that I have for them is that America is with you. We are standing behind you.

In his remarks to the Red Cross today Obama had a rather infelicitous choice of words when he said that as Americans, "we will leave nobody behind."

That will haunt him.

I am somewhat annoyed at Christie for giving Bambi a platform. But New Jersey, of course, was going to vote for Obama anyway, and so were the surrounding states, so it probably doesn’t matter.

Obama’s really making Christie work for that FEMA dollar.

“Since the Yankees came to Trinidad
They have the young girls goin’ mad.
The young girls say they treat ‘em nice
And they give them a better price.

They buy rum and Coca-Cola,
Go down Point Cumana.
Both mother and daughter
Workin’ for the Yankee dollar.”

Better add a 100 lb. sack of sand to Obama’s side of the helicopter for even load distribution. :)

Seriously, I heard Christie speak this AM on FNC. What a speaker! I'd be luck to have half the speaking ability he possesses.

Interesting he is going out with a (R) gov Christi, vs a (D) Gov Cuomo.

Trying to come across as bi-partisan?

BTW, have you noticed that Obama and the feds are really pretty invisible so far? Bloomberg and Christi are on TV 3-4 times a day. All talking about how their local resources are fixing this and that.

The weather channel seems focused today on RI beachfront. All worried about how the sand has washed away on the beach. And 3 homes washed out to sea. Surely there is some more serious damage for them to show.

“Zer0 won’t be visible in Christie’s shadow.”

I was thinking maybe the GOP/Romney’s campaign sent Christie to “shadow” Obama.

To out talk him, to sit on him, to block the sun from him, to overshadow him, etc.

Whatever it takes, and Christie is the one guy you don’t want to meet with at the campaign stop, when people are holding microphones out.
