NEW ORLEANS -- An Eyewitness News investigation has found potential traffic code violations on several public cars driven by New Orleans officials. And these officials are the very people responsible for holding motorists to task for the very same violations – the judges of traffic court. For several years, the five taxpayer-financed cars assigned to the judges and clerk of traffic courts have been outfitted with blue emergency dashboard lights.

New Orleans?

Judges or otherwise ... nobody pays a Ticket in New Orleans... when I first moved there I got a speeding Ticket, I just paid the Fine and was ridiculed for years for being a Dumb Yankee... you don’t Pay Fines, you get them FIXED... it is just the way it is done.

As far as following the Law ... Law Enforcement and Judges are the last that you would expect to follow the Law, why else would you get into the business?

Everyone knows who the current Mafia Bosses are and maybe 10% know who their Representatives are... That is New Orleans.

"When we showed him photographs illustrating how his plate becomes invisible in the glare of a camera flash, he responded, “I didn’t know about that.”

I seem to recall a legal dictum about ignorance and no excuse

Orleans Parish traffic court is the biggest farce I've ever seen. Back before the city started modernizing its parking meters, the old mechanical meters were always broken... or were set to deploy the "Violation" flag even though the meter also showed ten minutes of time remaining. I used to snap digital pictures of that (with the camera's date/time stamp enabled), which I then used to get parking tickets dismissed.

Except, of course, if my case were assigned to the BLIND judge, who refused to consider the photographic evidence even if his clerk accurately described it.

That municipal court building was also surrounded by a swarm of meter maids, eagerly handing out citations for the slightest infractions to anyone that had the temerity to come there and contest their previous parking tickets.

Revenue from parking a speeding tickets is a major and jealously-protected source of revenue in the city's budget. Maybe your mafia connections helped you get tickets got fixed, but it doesn't work that way for the rest of us.

LOL

I forgot to mention that I worked for Edwin Edwards at the time (also worked for Gov Buddy Roemer and Gov Mike Foster but they were much different than Edwards)
