This isn’t “looting” as the term is normally understood - gangs of disorganized scavengers smashing into stores and emptying them. These are small crews of seasoned stickup men taking advantage of stretched police resources. Some of these crews are even dressing as police and fire.

You are right, these are not merely looters, these folks can actually be defined as terrorists in a manner since they are using means and ways far beyond the normal definition of looting.

I can just imagine vigilantes having firefights with armed faked firemen or utility workers, surely primetime cinema drama even thinking of the situation.

Talk about nightmares.

Given that NYC cops were found to be looting and abusing people’s rights when they were deployed to Katrina it’s not a big stretch to consider that the ‘crews’ in question really are police and fire staff.
