As a favor to an old friend, I worked for a time as a consultant physician at a maximum security prison. I was there one day per month for about a year. This is how they live. The cell is the size of a closet. They get out for an hour a day and when they are out, they are alone in a small indoor area. They have one small slit in the cell door. That's it. I know these guys deserve this and more. But think about it, I know I would choose death over that existence.

Coming from his position in life it will be a very rough stint for him but as you say rough for anyone.

Yes, The death penalty would be preferable If it didn’t take about 14 years of appeals.
