Obama, Romney to Both Campaign in Dubuque on Saturday

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Dubuque will be the center of the race for the White House Saturday, as both President Obama and republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will both be campaigning in the Key City.

The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports that Mitt Romney will hold a campaign rally around mid-day at Dubuque Regional Airport. The paper reports that further details are still being worked out.

The Obama for America Campaign announced Wednesday the President will hold a Grassroots event at Washington Park in Dubuque on Saturday. Doors open at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available beginning Thursday, November 1 at 3:00 p.m. at the Roshek Building Lobby, Dubuque County Democratic Headquarters and at Loras College.

This will be the second visit to Dubuque for both candidates during their campaigns.

The candidates' visits mark a final push for Iowa's six electoral votes in this tight race for the presidency. The visits will also get attention across the border in western Wisconsin, which is also considered a battleground state.

Iowa's getting a flurry of visits by candidates and surrogates. Romney campaigned Monday in Davenport. Bill Clinton is campaigning across Iowa for Obama on Wednesday and Vice President Joe Biden stops Thursday in Muscatine and Fort Dodge.

A new Hawkeye Poll showing Mitt Romney with a slight lead over President Obama probably is all that’s needed to explain why both candidates will be in Iowa Saturday.

The poll, released Oct. 31, found the GOP challenger leading the president 45.2 percent to 44.4 percent among voters who said they plan to vote.

My prediction: There will be so many Romney supporters at the Dubuque Airport, Obama will be forced to divert his flight.

The only time I’ve driven anywhere just to see a political candidate was 4 years ago, to see Sarah Palin at the river center.

I think your prediction is right on.

Q: Why is Obama campaigning in Iowa?

A: Because he already has the Benghazi vote in the bag.

Went to Cedar Rapids rally which had a BIG crowd !

Plan to go to the Dubuque Rally Saturday ! ! !

BTW, looks like Benghazi airport is operational and could
become a logical diversion destination . . . LOL . . .

Can Dubuque Regional handle AF1?

Now that I look it up, I see he's been known to lower himself to using the 757 ("Air Force Two") when necessary.

Regardless, the long national nightmare is just about over. Can't wait to see what The One Lame Duck will try to do on his way out. Guessing he'll make Clinton's shenanigans look like child's play.

“can DBQ Regional handle AF1”

Good question - I thought the same thing.

I’ve watched AF1 (B747) take off, from a distance(my office), at Dane County Regional(Madison) a couple of times.

I swear AF1 needed every inch of runway at Dane County in the 747.
Long at Dane County = 9006 feet
Long at Dubuque = 6502

That said, whatever plane the prez is in is designated AF1 -whether it is a 747, G5 or cessna :D

Maybe he’s flying in a smaller plane? I have no idea what AF1 747 weighs fully loaded with presidential stuff - but 6500 feet doesn’t sound like enough to me - I’m no expert tho.

Not so sure

AF1 is whatever USAF plane the President happens to be flying on, regardless of whether it’s one of the VC-25s (747) or a Gulfstream bizjet.

The VC-25s aren’t automatically identified as AF1. When the President isn’t aboard they go by their tail numbers: 28000 and 29000.

It’ll be interesting to see what Obamas face looks like when he deplanes, assuming he looks out the window on approach and sees with his own eyes the size of the Romney event crowd.
