With six days to go before Election Day, The Hill reports that President Obama will appear with Chris Christie, who will be giving the president a tour of the damage in his state in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
New Jersey is a blue state, but this sends a pretty strong message, nationally. As Salons Steve Kornacki opines: This is exactly the sort of cross-partisan boost that candidates dream of receiving in a races final days, especially a race as close as this one.
Coming on the heels of Christies tweet which said, I dont give a damn about Election Day after what has happened here, Christies over-the-top embrace of Obama has many observers scratching their heads.
Its important to put things in context. New Jersey was slammed with a deadly storm, and President Obama has by all counts executed his duties appropriately. New Jersey is obviously seeking federal assistance, and regardless, Christie should be gracious and respectful to the president.
The question is whether with just days left before Election Day Christie should have gone out of his way to lavish praise on Obama, and to provide him with a terrific photo-op for which to look presidential.

His election campaign begins next year. He knows that he is not going to give Democrats ammo to fire at him.
Obama communicating ‘on the beaches’ with the 1 percenters. Hah!
Soft bigotry of (extremely) LOW expectations for “the one.” The bar is relatively LOW.
Trying to set himself up for 2016. The catch-22 is that if he becomes one of the reasons why Romney loses, he will not be supported by the GOP in 2016.
Totally ridiculous story and assumption perhaps Christie is doing something wrong which may hurt Romney.
People are in pain and they’re is great suffering in NJ. To believe Christie should ignore or nitpick the Administration response and Obama is IMO dumb. If he did this he would indeed do damage both to himself and Romney because he would be roundly criticized for putting politics ahead of the pain and suffering of his own citizens.
I believe he’s trying to help NJ
If this keeps up Christie will have his own MSNBC show.
He lost my vote with his man crush on Obummer
Just another photo-op for Obama...
Getting Obama’s poop all over his bag, fat, stupid looking face.
Easy, Christie is trying to ingratiate himself to New Jersey in hopes of getting re-elected, to hell what is good for the nation.
Like most squishy liberal republicans, he totally does not understand democrats. As long as Chrispy has an (R) association, he will be viciously attacked by libs.
I’d guess he’s up to around 300 at this point.
“Trying to set himself up for 2016. The catch-22 is that if he becomes one of the reasons why Romney loses, he will not be supported by the GOP in 2016.”
If Romney loses now, there won’t be a GOP in 2016.
Most rational post so far. Well done Lacey2. You may be much too mature for this thread;)
Nobody here is suggesting that he brush obama off or nitpick his response. He could have been polite to the president and recognized that the administration was willing to help without spending 2 days very publicly lavishing obama with unwarranted and unnecessary sloppy kisses. Christie made a fool of himself in my opinion...but I always thought he was a buffoon anyway.
Gas lines with a week to prepare?
