What’s Chris Christie up to?
Daily Caller ^ | November 1, 2012 | Matt K. Lewis

With six days to go before Election Day, The Hill reports that President Obama will appear with Chris Christie, “who will be giving the president a tour of the damage in his state in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.”

New Jersey is a blue state, but this sends a pretty strong message, nationally. As Salon’s Steve Kornacki opines: ”This is exactly the sort of cross-partisan boost that candidates dream of receiving in a race’s final days, especially a race as close as this one.”

Coming on the heels of Christie’s tweet which said, “I don’t give a damn about Election Day after what has happened here,” Christie’s over-the-top embrace of Obama has many observers scratching their heads.

It’s important to put things in context. New Jersey was slammed with a deadly storm, and President Obama has — by all counts — executed his duties appropriately. New Jersey is obviously seeking federal assistance, and regardless, Christie should be gracious and respectful to the president.

The question is whether — with just days left before Election Day — Christie should have gone out of his way to lavish praise on Obama, and to provide him with a terrific photo-op for which to look presidential.

The logistics of giving that piece of crap a photo op is not helpful to NJ. Christie’s ego is the size of his waist.

Even Bloomberg told Obama to get his photo op in NJ. Christie is an azzhole. NJ already gives more money, per capita, to Washington than it gets back.

Why give that idiot a photo op? How in hell does that help NJ? It helps Christie and nobody else.

The only reason that idiot is governor is because he ran against super criminal Corzine.

Christie really played it smart.

It kept Obama off the campaign trail...Joisey voted heavily for Obama in 2008 anyways......

People are already complaining...which is BAD for Obama....and look at the lines for fuel....absurd...

Federal FEMA sucks....all it is...is a money tree....

He knows that he is not going to give Democrats ammo to fire at him

He already has. He had to ask Obama for help because the Republican governor could not handle it just like Bush with Katrina.

THAT will be the narrative. Sorry, I do NOT trust Obama, the media and their media.

Yes, this is Obama's creation but a republican will own it.

The real negative for Christie here is going to be that Obama had not done a damn thing when Christie atarted praising him. And people are getting pissed in NJ already.

There is all this great talk of helping people and caring, but what will the govertnment do? From what I saw on the web, they offer grants to homeowners and loans to small business, also you can get unemployment. This seems to be standard operating procedure.

Christie was setting him up it would appear. Saying obama has been stupendous and all. When in fact, the situation is deteriorating by the minute. So Christie set up the expectations and reality is knocking the Federal response down to earth. Lots of pissed off voters thinking obama was on top of things, and now he’s not.

Christie beat the crap out of Obama, all throughout the election cycle, rightfully so. Now, the state is a waste-basket across the coastline. His priority is the getting the people HELP as quickly as possible. FEEMA handles all flood insurance claims, so he’s done the right thing. End of story!

He is governor of his state first, making sure his constituents are cared for after the storm. For that I don't think he did anything wrong.

His words have been co-opted by the MSM as something akin to a verbal BJ for obummer. Media whores, they never let us down for comedy relief..

Actually, that’s also a good point. But, I really don’t believe it was a ‘set up’ purpose. Christie really wanted to make sure the President ‘prioritized’ the processing of insurance claims so his people could get the cash as quickly as possible to rebuild.

The amount of cynical filth on display here is sickening.

Luckily there is someone in charge who is Jersey who can drop the partisan crap when the ish hit’s the fan.

If some folks here had their way, they apparently would have spit in Obama’s face instead.

CLASSY!!!

It is one thing to cooperate and work with Obama. It is another to “orgasmically” praise him for simply showing up.

Christie owns the pain of NJ? Give me a break. I’m from NJ. My family lives in NJ. Nobody is singing the praise of Chris Christie and Obama walking around, bromantically, feeling our pain. Obama cares about the Jersey Shore? really?

Christie is a shitty politician and nothing else. Maybe he cares as much as any governor would about his state and maybe he doesn’t.

The rest of us will give to charities and help our neighbors and not rely on our politicians to help us with their little political games.

If you think this wasn’t a calculated political move by Christie, you’re stupid. Chris Christie may be honest, but he’s about the most cynical political animal I’ve ever seen. Going back to his prosecutor’s career.

Christie is not an idiot, that’s just a fact. He obviously is shell shocked by this disaster and it is a big disaster. He needs to get the NJ shore communities up and running by Summer before NJ loses a fortune in tourist revenue.

Was the praise of Obama merited? No. Clearly nothing had been done yet. Christie is kissing up and also deflecting responsibility to the feds.

Based on past experience I wouldn’t bet on the fed response being quick enough or good enough.

You raise good points because it’s possible Christie could get more reaction by pressing the feds for a response, rather than fawning. Definitely Obama had nothing to earn any praise.

Only the naive would think Obama did not tell Christie that if he wants help, he better sing praises and not a word about Romney. Obama is desperate right now, they play hardball politics, and the election is days away.

1) He’s getting money for his state.

2) NJ is a blue state. The only way he’ll be reelected is if he shows he can work with Democrats in a time of crisis.

3) From his perspective, the hurricane is bigger than the presidential election.
