Maxwell Smart Was Right - Islamism and Leftism may just be frenemies-but behind them lurks "KAOS."
The American Spectator ^ | November 2, 2012 | Judd Magilnick

It's a puzzlement: Why do leftists tolerate radical Islam? Begging the question: What does the man who Newsweek's cover declared is "the first gay president" think is going to happen once sharia comes to his zip code?

Great minds are flummoxed by the attraction of two seeming political opposites. Even the late, brilliant cynic Christopher Hitchens was surprised and stunned by the blasé 1989 response of his leftist then-pals to the Salman Rushdie fatwa. Lesser minds on the left try to justify the wacky attraction by viewing global jihad as primarily a violent spasm of the economically exploited. If not brothers, these Islamists must at least be their cousins in arms. University leftists comfortably ignore that "religious" motivation of fatwas, sharia, or honor killings because, in their world, everyone who's educated knows that religion doesn't exist.

No fan of the left, Newt Gingrich offers an alternate psychiatric solution, suggesting that the current president "has almost a psychological need to be totally blind to the realities of Islamic extremism…. as though he has a desperate need to believe in something which is totally false."

For those still not satisfied with an understanding of the leftist/Islamist cohabitation, dozens of alternative theories have sprung up (see hashtags "secret Muslim", "Saudi money," "Indonesian birth certificate"). Irrespective of whether any or all are true, these storylines have been unflinchingly driven against media ridicule and elite indifference by people trying to solve the Islam/leftism riddle. They look for that one hidden secret that will explain it all, much like the last page of an Agatha Christie story.

In the midst of our existential battle of civilizations, these conventional assessments of the Islam/Left dynamic are worse than facile or inadequate -- they are dangerous......

It’s simple. They share a common hatred: Christians.

As far as the leftists, I think it’s an underlying desire for self flagellation.

Islam and the left ally to accomplish their major aim the destruction of the west. When they accomplish that they will turn on each other. My money is on the muzzies.

This is a really good article. It puts into words what I’ve been thinking for years. Much of the Left is inexplicable to me but this helps me explain it in words.

The Left is approaching the quintessential concept of pure evil. Before you all pooh-pooh me, think about it—yes, there are those who lean left that are ostensibly good people, but they tend to be those ruled by emotion...they fall prey to the “sob story” and live generally fear-filled lives. The true “Left” are the puppeteers of these poor folks and use adversity as a measuring stick of “worth” (which may explain why they describe sufferers as “heros”).

Those of us on the “Right” on the other hand, tend to not live our lives in fear, but rather in trust. Hence, we do believe in a “Higher Power” and do not fall for the “sob story” or at least view such as an exception as opposed to a rule. This explains why the Democrats legislate based on the exception (the “sob story”—”there should be a law”)—micro-management. and the Republicans tend to be much more “macro”, thinking of government as ideally being an “enabler” as opposed to a “governor” and they ascribe the “micro” part of living to the individual which is also considered a place where government should not trod.

This election will determine whether we take the Left fork in the road or the Right fork in the road. This may be the final fork...no turning back if we take the Left.

Yes, that’s the key. They also share a similar hatred for Israel, but I think the hatred for Christians is stronger with the Lefties.

Furthermore, the Left is foolish enough to think that they can control the Muslims, and stop the Muslims from turning on them when the time comes. Just like liberals thought they could support the Communists, and the Commies would spare them when they came to power. Just like the liberals think they can encourage black lawlessness in America, and the black criminals won’t ravage the liberals out of gratitude or something. They just prefer their fantasies to the realities which are obvious to everyone else.

What I refer to as "legislating by anecdote." Not good law, but "feel good" law.

I think that Nuc has it closer to the truth, Ky. Although it’s hard to separate all the elements that have gone into creating and sustaining western civilization (”civilization,” in brief), there are any number of elements of this civilization that are distasteful in the extreme to both leftists and some Muslims.

And both of these groups tend to millennialism (I use an implicitly Judaeo-Christian term) of a certain sort; that which requires active, even violent participation of the true believer in order to bring it about.

The eyes of both these groups are averted from the fact that the paradises-on-Earth envisioned by each are in various ways exact opposites and cannot possibly co-exist. Even if there existed only one dominant group of destructively utopian revolutionaries, the blood of Humanity would eventually run deep on the ground; it could be only worse with two or more groups vying for the prize. The worst of the present revolutionaries, the ones truly without humanity, know this.

Allow me to add that although many Christians are millennialists, the ones I know tend to leave the transformation of world to its presumably final state of peace, prosperity, and grace, to the transfiguring hand of God rather than the fallible and too-often misguided hand of Man. In the meantime they strive sincerely to do His will and obey His commandments, which are manifestly flouted by the utopian destroyers.

Yes, that common hatred is Christians and America. The left is trying to break down freedom of speech to ban their political and social enemies as they have done in Europe and Canada.

Islam’s threat of violence for anti-Mohammad speech gives them the doorway. If they can legally claim that speech they don’t like is like calling fire in a crowded theater - dangerous -then they can move on from there.

That is what the video lie in the aftermath of the murders in Libya was about - using Islamic terrorism as an excuse to ban free speech.
