'No Red Tape'? New Jersey Turns Away Non-union Relief Crews
Breitbart ^ | 1 Nov 2012 | Joel B. Pollak

How desperate is hurricane-ravaged New Jersey? Not desperate enough to suspend a union monopoly that keeps the state in the bottom ten states for economic competitiveness (and #48 for business friendliness). Relief crews from Alabama who were specifically called to New Jersey found themselves diverted to Long Island, NY after they arrived because they use non-union labor. Alabama is a right-to-work state.

We were without power for 3 weeks after Katrina. It was a crew from Alabama that hooked us back up. I could have kissed every one of those guys.

I think Breitbart has missed this one. This has turned out to be largely, if not completely false.

Some crews were turned away because there was too much help already.

Some were turned away because there were other places more in need.

They need gas. They need food. Where’s Hurricane Christie to help them get their gas and food? Is he in Las Vegas campaigning with Obama? Just kidding.

Is it possible for the large fuel tanker trucks to pump their gas into people’s containers and cars? That doesn’t seem too hard. They can still charge by the gallon.

No one wants to hear that kind of stuff or that it could have been taken care of before hand by a few phone calls.

Do you have a 4 inch connection point on your car. Semi tankers don’t have meters on them.

Well, tough luck. I hate the unions as much as the next guy, but it's my belief that this not a righteous bash.

So I said so.

I spoke to a guy from Alabama at quick check.
He was never turned away by jcpl and he’s not
Union.

It does make a good talking point though.

The Bama crews from Decatur AL were turned away. There are quoted articles from the source in Decatur. To say otherwise is incorrect.
