Fundamentals usually prevail in American elections. That's bad news for Barack Obama. True, Americans want to think well of their presidents and many think it would be bad if Americans were perceived as rejecting the first black president.
But it's also true that most voters oppose Obama's major policies and consider unsatisfactory the very sluggish economic recovery -- Friday's jobs report showed an unemployment uptick.
Also, both national and target state polls show that independents, voters who don't identify themselves as Democrats or Republicans, break for Romney.

From his lips to God’s ears. Can it get any better than a true walking electoral encyclopedia who just called this three days before the election?? He has all the information he needs at this point. I might go out and buy a special bottle of champagne tomorrow, and ice it Monday, and drink it Tuesday night.

I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning. I’m a pessimist, by nature, but have been so optimistic about a repub win. I’m in Nebraska so tonight we get a call with an ID appearing to be from a friend. They asked for my son, who hasn’t lived here in years. I asked if I could take a message and the young lady said she was just calling regarding Bob Kerry. It was so unexpected and the only thing I could say was Bob Kerry can go to hell. It felt so good!! Shoulda said he could take Hagel with him. If you haven’t heard the “lifelong republican” just endorsed him.
I’ll go out on a limb, and say that the great yet-to-be-written story of this election will be the Democrats who end up voting for Romney.
Reagan Democrats.
Romney Democrats.
OK, I’m done.
Hope so. Dems have every reason to vote for Romney.
I went the other direction. I stopped of tonight and bought a bottle of bourbon just in case.
