Akin in MO was crucified for referring to “legitimate rape,” but there are cases of false accusations of rape, which is what he meant. Young men have been ruined by such charges, filed by women who have changed their minds about having had intercourse.

I believe the distinction Akin was making was between violent (real, ‘legitimate’) rape and statutory rape (18 yo guy and 17 yo girlfriend), not ‘false accusational rape’.

He could’ve worded that better, but his meaning was fairly clear and the storm that ensued puzzles me still.
