I read a fairly convincing mathematical analysis of the electoral college that shows it is possible to win the electoral college with less than 28% of the popular vote...I will have to dig it up

Look at the voting totals. Hard to read, but the graphic shows about 19 million votes for Romney but 15 million for Obama.

So it looks like MSNBC is planning on calling the election for Obama when only about half of the vote has been tallied.
