Anyone. Is it even possible for a bullet to cause a fire (other than if it hits nitroglycerin)?

Tracers and, in the larger calibers like .50 BMG and 12.7x108mm, armor-piercing incendiary.

Also, anything shot by a lady shooter, cuz ladies shooting is hot. Easily hot enough to start a fire. Granted, this is unlikely in a Muslim country, but could be plausible if it was an Israeli round headed the other way:

Baywatch, IDF style

It is quite a concern during hunting season as a bullet stricking a rock in dry tinder is apt to start a fire much the same as lighting only a smaller start.

In December, 1958, a tracer round inadvertently fired by someone engaging in target practice started the Stewart fire which scorched thousands of acres in south Orange County, Calif. I recall seeing the smoke from that fire stretching across the horizon from my home in Whittier.

Wasn’t it only a couple weeks ago that Al Jazeera had the article titled “single bullet electrocutes 23 at wedding” ...

Where they did their usual Allah Akbar bang bang bang thing at the party, firing guns into the air, a bullet grazed and cut a power line, it swung down and landed on a metal door electrocuting 23?

Who needs nukes?

There was also the story of a Palestinian firing shots in the air at the celebration of his sister’s HS graduation. One of the bullets killed his sister.

But guns don’t kill people. People shooting guns straight up in the air kill people, which of course is a small price to pay for this proud cultural heritage./s
