How nice.

The 15 year old around here says, “how am I goiong to pay for college now that Obama’s back in and there will be even more debt piled onto me?”

Blacks have not had to bother with the farms in a very long time. If they have it has been a choice. Sad thing is that a lot of small farms will be closing down. They never seem to stop and consider how food is processed and grown and eventually makes it’s way to the table. When everything is free no one stops to think about it until it is all gone.

Hey, Brandon, remember when your president said he didn’t do his homework for the debate because it was boring? Well, look where he is today!

“picking crops” translates to

“having to actually work for a living”

Quite frankly I’ve been of the opinion for sometime that most people are only suited to be farm laborers and that the promotion of the populace to a higher level is what is ruining us.

“Because if Mitt Romney wins,” he replied, “we’ll be going back to the crop fields. We’ll be picking crops.”

Substitute Barack Obama for Mitt Romney and you have an accurate prediction.

Davis said, "I vigorously reject the insinuation that there is a uniquely 'black' way of understanding an issue."

Kudos to Mr. Davis!

I hope that someone explains to this kid that had it not been for affirmative action Colin Powell just might have ended up in those fields. He sure as hell wouldn’t have made the rank of general.

One other thing, it wouldn’t hurt that kid to work out in that field for a while. It might teach him some work ethic. I worked in the fields and it didn’t hurt me. Blacks weren’t the only ones chopping and picking cotton back in the day.

I was about Brandon's age when my mother and I watched the 1960 convention, when John Kennedy was nominated. In my new book, "Dear Father, Dear Son," I write about my Democratic mother and Republican father. Neither of them accused Richard Nixon of seeking to re-impose Jim Crow. They talked about issues, policy differences. During vigorous political arguments over the kitchen table, neither my mother nor father played victim. Neither thought the opposing party was "out to get them." Mom and Dad considered America an imperfect country in a constant -- mostly successful -- struggle to live up to her ideals.

Very well put. But of course nobody could "re-impose Jim Crow" in 1960. It was still around (and enforced by Democrats).

A couple of years in the crop fields might be good for him: Fresh air, an actual job, a lot fewer gang members around, less chance of being shot.
