OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Washington state has approved gay marriage, joining Maine and Maryland as the first states to pass same-sex marriage by popular vote.

Voter returns released since election night show Referendum 74 has maintained its lead. Opponents conceded the race Thursday, while supporters declared victory a day earlier.

Brought to you by the same state that legalized abortion, by public referendum, in 1970.

I respect the Constitution, so I understand the Tenth Amendment argument that allows the states to go this route...at least it was decided by the voters and not forced by the courts.

My heart and soul weeps for the perversion that this emblazones upon our society.

Hey, if blue states want to approve gay marriage, I don’t care. Just like I don’t care if they want to tax the s___t out of their citizens. If they want to live in a moral and financial Hellhole, that is their business. Its only when Libs try to foist these policies on the rest of the states via the federal government or dictator judges that I get pissed off.

Once again thank California multi-millionares for sticking their sorry ass noses in Washington politics by donating millions and millions of dollars to support sodomite
“marriage”.

These perverts can call plugging each other in the rectum marriage all they want, but no way it’s marriage and anyone with a brain knows it’s not. They already had Civil Unions, which gave them every benefit of a married couple. But of course that was not good enough for the radical sodomite lobby and their leftists supporters. They wanted the word “marriage” so they once again cram their filthy lifestyle down the throats of God-fearing Christians. Pathetic bastards. No way will two men or two women ever be “married” in the eyes of the Lord, but these athiest heathens could care less, they only want to make a statement. Next it’ll be some degenerate wanting to “marry” his German Sheppard or his mother. Marriage is either a man and a woman or it’s nothing. It does not exist in any other form.

The left successfully (over the course of about 20 years) connected same-sex marriage to the civil rights movement. I can’t imagine all the tactics, money, and time wasted fighting against this stuff for less than 5% of the electorate. It was never worth fighting over in the first place.

Why should we accept this result? The liberal rats never quit when they lose a referendum. In 2009, the people of Maine voted down homo marriage and the queers just put the referendum right back up. Now that they win we are supposed to just accept the results forever? FKin basterd liberals in Maine. I hope they get flooded with a million Somalis and turn Portland into Detroit.

Do you have some legal theory that would show this would violate individual rights under the constitution somehow ?

I hope the success of marijuana and gay marriage in other states, where both failed in California, people will realize California isn't as "liberal" as expected.

Depending on the state’s amendment mechanism, I would think that each could amend its constitution to define marriage. Can’t see that happening in WA any more than I see it in NY.

Anyone know what happened to the state government makeup in Iowa this week? They had to get rid of some RINOs and Dems to get a Marriage Amendment started there.

Why are you blaming Californians? California defeated gay marriage at the ballot box. Twice.

This is on the Washington voters.

I think this was a premature concession, and here’s why.

The Eastern half of the state is far more conservative than the West, and much more rural. There are likely thousands more pro-marriage ballots still to be delivered and counted that are slower to arrive due to the distance and inaccessibility involved.

I do hope that they count all of the ballots.

The interesting fight will come when a gay couple gets married in Washington and then moves to Montana.

I don't practice family law, but I remember learning in law school a legal maxim that "a marriage valid where celebrated is valid everywhere."

The majority of the “voters” in the state of Washington live in and around King County, that is Seattle. Almost every damn one of them migrated up from the land of fruits and nuts.
Started over 30 years ago. 90% of the land area in the state votes conservative, but the population centers are around Seattle and the Puget Sound area, a liberal cesspool.

Like I said the vast majority of the land area of Washington State (like Oregon) is occupied by conservatives. I live in Eastern Washington, don’t know any democrats around here.

Yes I would agree with the exception of Spokane. I wish we could move to the Eastern side.
