Excommunicate them.
Re-translation: spriritual revival has the side benefit of an electorate that makes better choices.
Astonishing! It would be interesting to know how the local priests voted.
Translation. Hypocrites that don’t practice their faith voted for Obama, no matter what demonination. Romney got the ones that actually try to live their faith. But we have more hypocrites than real Christians so the communist carried the day.
Yep that is it!!!! You can’t beat Santa Claus!!!
I would like to see religious leadership make a real effort to tell people which political issues are in line with their faith. There is right. There is wrong. The religious leaders are supposed to help people see the difference.
And if the IRS has a problem, it should be pushed to the supreme court. Black churches push socialism from the pulpit all the time. We can, and should, push from our pulpits.
Bill would say that almost 70% of the white practicing Catholics voted Romney.
Not true. Almost 40% of the white practicing Catholics did not vote. So they did not vote in the Congressional and state races, which is more important. Considering most do not live in a swing state.
“What this shows is that the more practicing a Catholic is, of any ethnic background, the less likely he is to support the more secular of the candidates. “
the problem with this is several fold....
1) there is no measure listed of the % of practicing latino Catholics who voted Romney/obozo...
2) there is no measure on the % of practicing latino Catholics vs non-practicing latino Catholics...
3) this is another area where the GOP has fallen short- getting into the areas where there are practicing latino Catholics and displaying how the liberal agenda is anti-Catholic/Christian....
LOL, don't count on this changing anytime soon. It's too much benefit to the Left to claim Catholics as their own. Psy-ops and all that.
There is no bigger supporter of the welfare state and thus welfare state politicians and the Dem party than the Catholic bishops. They love this destructive system based on envy, jealousy, covetousness, bitterness and theft. They promote this all the time and then they say oh, no, dont vote for pro-abortion candidates. Good luck with that. Choosing which sins are ok and which are not is kinda tricky business.
Most Christians would rewrite Jesuss parable and take the golden talents from the man with 5 and give them to those who had fewer or none.
Growing up we learned to create pictures of Jesus out of dried pasta as kids, as teens we thought John Paul II was pretty cool but learned next to nothing about doctrine outside of a few basics, as adults we read vague pamphlets about “voting our consciences” — I had hope that bishops FINALLY speaking up would be listened to but I should have known that is a foreign concept to my peers.
ItWere practicing Catholics suppose to vote for a man who promised NEVER to infringe on a womans right to choose? Or the Father of gay marriage? Or a man who as Governor tried to force Catholic hospitals to perform abortions, and was responsible for Catholic Charities to close down adoptions in Mass. because they refused to provide gay adoptions. We were given no choice on those issues.
I’m seeing dozens of postings on this subject in FR.. What no one is pointing out is that MSM is killing stories on reporting about Obama’s war with the Catholics . I’ll bet that at most of those non practicing Catholics voting for Obama haven’t any idea of what is going on or about the law suits on contitutional ground that are being filed.
We have a 150 years of the same thing.
Catholics vote democrat, protestants vote republican.
Show me the official statement that says a Catholic who attends church only occasionally is not a “good” Catholic.
The majority of Latino Catholics, the fastest growing Catholic group, will support a pro abortion, etc. candidate.
The Catholic church hasn't figured out what to do with this group that it depends upon for future growth and platitudes about “evangelizing” ring hollow when a sizable portion of the membership is willing to hold the coats of those practicing or advocating a “grave sin”.
Bill Donohue strongly defended Cardinal Dolan’s Al Smith laugh-fest with Obama. Why should I care about anything he has to say?
CATHOLICS FOR OBAMA (CFO)
“A project of Catholic Democrats, Catholics For Obama (CFO) was formed to promote the presidential candidacy of Senator Barack Obama in 2008. Noting that Americans are weary of being pitted against one another over issues of race, disparity of wealth, and religion, CFO stated that Senator Obama has made bringing Americans together to solve common problems the central theme of his campaign. One CFO board member called Obama a presidential candidate of historic accomplishments, and lauded his background as a 1980s-era community organizer whose efforts to [economically] empower the lives of thousands of people had received vital funding from the U.S. Bishops. Obama’s employer in the eighties had been the Chicago-based Developing Communities Project, an initiative of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.”
Though Obama has been an unwavering backer of abortion rights throughout his years in politicshe opposed even the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act as a state senatorCFO says that by the standards of Catholic Social Teaching, Obama is technically pro-life because he has spent his entire career striving for the common good. Specifically, CFO praises the President for supporting health care programs that will cover all Americans, a living wage for working families, and solutions that allow distressed families to stay in their homes. Moreover, CFO reasons that Obama’s presidency will ultimately reduce the number of abortions by promoting health care for pregnant women and better infant care, day care and job training.
Maintaining that the state has a positive moral function to promote the common good, CFO views the expansion of governmental power as a preferred means of solving society’s most pressing problems.
The president and board chairman of CFO is Patrick Whelan, who also serves as president of Catholic Democrats. A member of the pediatrics faculty at Harvard Medical School and a co-director of Pax Christi Massachusetts, Whelan was formerly a national co-director of Catholics for Kerry; he served for three years on the Democratic National Committee’s Faith Advisory Council under Howard Dean; and he volunteered with the Catholic Worker communities in Los Angeles and Houston.
Other CFO board members include:
- Victoria Reggie Kennedy: The widow of the late Senator Edward Kennedy, Victoria is an attorney and an activist who has been an official with numerous groups focused on reducing gun violence and restricting access to firearms.
- Kathleen Kennedy Townsend: The eldest of Robert F. Kennedy’s eleven children, Townsend served two years as deputy assistant attorney general during the Bill Clinton administration, and later as Marylands lieutenant governor (1995-2003).
- Thomas P. ONeill III: ONeill was lieutenant governor of Massachusetts from 1975-1983. Today he is CEO of ONeill & Associates, a government and public-relations firm in Boston. (Tip’s son)
- James Roosevelt, Jr.: Formerly the chief legal counsel for the Massachusetts Democratic Party, Roosevelt currently co-chairs the Rules and By-laws Committee of the Democratic National Committee. He is also president and CEO of the Tufts Health Plan. (FDR’s grandson)
- William DAntonio: This retired professor of sociology was once the CEO of the American Sociological Association.
- Lisa Schare: This Cincinnati-based high-school art teacher serves as state chair of the Catholic Democrats of Ohio. A longtime Democratic Party activist, she did volunteer work for the Clinton/Gore, Gore/Lieberman, and Kerry/Edwards presidential campaigns.

The Creation of the Religious Left
“When people reflect on the Christian church they generally picture a fellowship of believers whose focus is on *spiritual growth*, *spreading the faith*, and *good works*. These were the church’s primary goals until the last few decades. There is a wide gulf, however, between yesterday’s goals and today’s agenda. The American mainline churches the most prominent of which are the *United Methodists*, the United Church of Christ, the Presbyterian Church (USA), the Episcopalians, the American Baptists, many Catholic leaders and orders, and the Lutheran Church in America - have realigned their priorities in a frighteningly *political* direction.”
“A growing percentage of Christian leadership has abandoned its role as *spiritual shepherd* because it no longer considers humanity’s *spiritual welfare* its greatest concern. A great many bishops have rejected *winning souls* in favor of *influencing political issues*. Church bureaucracy now neglects traditional mission in favor of *lobbying for political causes*. In fact, certain sectors of the church now make it their primary business to manufacture, widely distribute, and finance a radical agenda by which they hope *to save the world*. In doing so, they have created the *Religious Left*.”
