Some good people honestly thought they could work with this guy and maybe nudge him in the right direction. If Petraeus
really had an affair, it would be no cause for resignation or even embarrassment in the present administration.
You can bet 100% that there is another story behind the story.

Blackmail, compromised...possibly within his own CIA. Someone was going public and he got out in front of it.
