This whole thing about Gen.Petraeus resigning over some personal affair he had with some woman does not meet the smell test.

He is being set up. Remember the Admiral (Jeremy Boorda) under Clinton who was told he was wearing a valor device on a medal (and had been for over a decade), but now he was told he wasn't entitled to wear it--and after a couple of days of press, supposedly committed suicide over it?

Petreus had stated that no order came from CIA to withhold any aid from our people in Benghazi. That meant the order came from higher up. (Because Pannetta had said the order didn't come from the Pentagon). Now, with no Republican Senate to effect an Impeachment, they are both out.

I wasn't worried about the POTUS race so much, but I think the election stealing happened in the Senate races to make Duh-1 'safe'.

Everybody is overthinking this.

First, Petraeus’ name was being bandied about as a potential GOP nominee way back in 2008.

Obama keeps him close-by, while having the FBI do the Chicago investigation in case the good general decides to run in 2012.

Obama got re-elected, so he can shed all pretense of reaching across the aisle and needs to appoint an extreme liberal CIA Director who will not stand in the way of the islamic/socialist plans taking shape worldwide.

Now, Benghazi happens and it seems like the perfect time to create a scapegoat......Petraeus. Fall on the sword or they will reveal the affair.

But Petraeus decides to resign instead.

Since He was the C.I.A. director one would think he would have been a national security risk IF ? he was involved in some kind of affair.
Remember back in the 80s ? many US troops were tricked into giving sensitive Intel to Russian women ?
The Soviets were good at using this kind of tactic of using beautiful Russian women to seduce American troops to give up the goods.
