This is the trope from the mainstream media (you know, that place where the majority of Americans get their information from); the GOP wants to work with President Obama, but extremists hell-bent on destroying the United States of America, the Tea Party Caucus specifically, refuses to negotiate anything owing to their ideological extremism. That's exactly how the MSM is going to spin it (along with the White House and the Democratic Party as well). And the American voter, currently busy watching "American Idol" and "Dancing With The Stars" or whatever, will certainly remember the GOP and their determination to destroy the USA. For you 'Star Trek' fanboys (and fangirls!) this is your Kobayashi Maru. The no-win scenario, the Hobson's Choice. And yes, they do happen in real life......especially in politics. "Let it burn!" you say.....by all means, but remember, the GOP will be blamed directly, NOT President Obama or the Democrats. And if you have in mind such silliness as "Well, no-one listens to the MSM anymore!" I'd like to ask you who's the occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue until 2016? On the other hand, if the GOP leadership compromises, well, they can kiss a large segment of the conservative base goodbye. Like I said, this is the GOP's Kobayashi Maru. Times like this make me quite content to be a humble English teacher. Good luck in 2014.
