GOP's state losses hint at national fate
San Francisco Chronicle / SFGate.com ^ | Updated 10:39 p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2012 | Carla Marinucci

Conservatives have long dismissed California, the nation's most-populous state and the world's ninth-largest economy, as the Left Coast, Wackyville and La-La Land.

But after Tuesday's election, there is one thing that Republicans across the nation can no longer do - ignore it.

The GOP failed to take the White House and lost an opportunity to reclaim control of the U.S. Senate, while trends that began in California - the burgeoning numbers of Latino, Asian American and young voters - are harbingers of what's ahead for Republican fortunes, Democratic consultant Garry South said.

"They can denigrate this state all they want," South said. "But the future of America is what you're seeing right now, laid out in California."

In the minority-majority state of California, the future isn't looking bright for the GOP, which has been reduced to rubble in the 2012 election cycle as its share of registered voters dropped below 30 percent.

The result: California Democrats hold every major statewide office, including governor, both U.S. Senate seats, nearly three-fourths of the congressional delegation, and the possibility of achieving a supermajority in both houses of the Legislature.

And the US will economically and financially look like California soon, too.

“California Attorney General Kamala Harris said the GOP needs to do some post-election soul searching about its hyper-partisan attitudes...for one party to say their goal is to obstruct the president, with a gang mentality - that can have a backlash.”

Says the woman who, as the SanFran DA, refused to even consider the state’s death penalty clause when a police officer was gunned down because she doesn’t believe in it. Talk about hyperpartisan and gang mentality!

The ‘Rats have piloted the good ship California for quite
a long while. The ship is sinking and they gloat over their
victory. If the GOP goes the Dems will have to become the
GOP themselves in order to correct their own excesses.

... the US will economically and financially look like California soon, too.

That argument may not work since all they'll say is that California is not only the 9th largest economy in the world (were it an independent country), but that it has the highest GDP of any state in the US. Latest figures have California at number 1 with US$1.94 Trillion and 13.3% of national GDP (no 2 is Texas with US$1.31 Trillion and 7.95%, no 3 is New York with US$1.16 Trillion and 7.68%, no 4 Florida at US$754 Billion and 5.2%, and Illinois wraps up no 5 with US$644 Billion and 4.4% of national GDP).

California's economy, good and bad, is one of the reasons they look down on much of the country - in particular what the West and East Coasts refer to as flyover country.

I actually read a Salon article where it and the comments underneath were basically, thank heaven the Dems have a supermajority, because the republicans have been singlehandedly DESTROYING CA, and it’s all their fault, and now the Dems are in control, and everything will be righted and wonderful from now on.

Delusional.

We should point to California as a warning. This will show America what happens when the Dems get everything they want.

The Repiblican controlled House of Representitives should not act foolishly and give the Dems what they want. Otherwise it will be “ so goes California, so goes the nation.” Our federal system affords us the luxury of watching and benefitting from the unwise experiments of misguided states.

I would warn the surrounding states, especially Arizona, to be on the lookout for INFECTED/TAINTED fruits and nuts and stop them at the border.

The Republicans do not control the House.

Yes: They have the majority, but they do not have a leader. Nancy Pelosi is still controlling the House.

Boehner is about as useful as the Statues in Statutory Hall there.

Simple solution: Wall off all the RAT controlled areas of California and sign it over the the Chinese in return for a write-off of all our debt to them.

It isn’t looking good for the citizens of CA either. We now have the highest taxes in the nation and they are going to go after the old Prop 13 protections with their super majorities.

The state is a cess pool.
The wealthy that could leave have or will go.
The press and politicians in this state know they going to collapse this state but they don’t care.

The people voting Democrat are connected to government unions, the dole or are kids brainwashed by the teacher’s union.

I don’t see any good end regarding CA and soon after or before the rest of the country.

We are just Greece a little sooner.

It would be nice if the electoral votes were based on the number of LEGAL residents. Californicate would probably loose a few.

It’s over kids. Obama Claus opened the candy store and the throng is rushing in to get candy. Soon the store will be empty and they will STILL blame the candy store owner for not having more candy.

Here is the Democrat’s take on Illinois. Even they realize it is bankrupt. CA, and NY are not far behind. This will not end well.

No thanks, I still ignore Kalicommunista, and there is no way I give a hit to anything SF. Let the ninth largest economy go bankrupt.

America hates the Brady Bunch BTW.
