CA is gone to the GOP and conservatives. I would leave if I lived there and had the ability to leave.
As to the Tea Party, I as one of their huge supporters will say without equivocation that when a tea party candidate crashes and burns due to stupid, pointless words out of his own mouth, we need to admit to it. It does no good to pretend that Mourdock and Akin were fine but the E didn’t like them. I realize Mourdock was shafted by Lugar and Lugar people, but Mourdock said something even more stupid than what Akin said. And that is ON HIM. Our people must take responsibility instead of deflecting it, even as we demand it of the Left and the GO E.
When I heard that Mourdock said if a pregnancy results from a rape, then God must have willed the pregnancy, I was dumbfounded and angry that he had just thrown away any chance we ever had to hold that seat.
And I don’t care who attacks ME, for saying this, and tries to pretend that the only reason Mourdock lost is because of the GOP E. I also said Akin’s remarks were incredibly stupid. I realize the TP side wants to believe that the E should support all TP candidates no matter what. That isn’t in the cards and is really ridiculous when you objectively look at it. It DOES matter what you say. If you cannot talk about the pro life position without making stupid, inflammatory, false comments, then do not run.
And that is true if you are a TP candidate or just a regular GOP candidate.
You are exactly right about the akin and mourdock snafu.
The outlook becomes even more grim when one gets scolded and called a liberal here for insisting that forcing rape victims to carry a rapists child is a losing proposition.
Yes! Candidates must be able to articulate their positions. Having your heart in the right place is not enough. Politics is rough and tumble and you need enough skill and talent to win.
