Yesterday, Diane Sawyer asked John Boehner in an interview if he planned to push for repeal of Obamacare. He responded that the election changes that and Obamacare is the law of the land.
No, Mr. Boehner, the Constitution is the law of the Republic.
In April 2011, following the failure of Republicans to defund Obamacare during the first budget battle, I wrote the following at Red State:
If it is reckless to shut down the government over Obamacare, then there is nothing in the budget worth fighting for. Due to the degree of entrenchment of the existing entitlement, even Paul Ryans plan will not balance the budget for another 26 years. If Obamacare is not defunded within the next year, it will be virtually impossible to completely repeal and will make a balanced budget an impossibility.
Well, they said all along that wed wait until 2012. They were sure wed win the election. Ironically, by running away from the Obamacare issue, they ensured that we would not win the election. Now that they lost, they say tough luck on Obamacare.

“If it is reckless to shut down the government over Obamacare, then there is nothing in the budget worth fighting for.”
Logic stands to reason.
Boehner beens paid off...
The republican party can GFT!
In the meantime, keep weapon-ing and ammo-ing up. While one still can.
But it isn't going to happen. Put your angry leader in front of the cameras and watch what happens: first Obama goes in front of the cameras and describes how a few radicals want to crash the economy. Next he works with the D-Senate to come up with a bill funding everything he wants and more. Next he pretends to negotiate with the angry leader and gives up an item or two, but actually gives nothing. Then he pulls a media TARP. Then we lose the house vote.
I can personally guarantee that my rep (Wolf R Va) will not read my letters, just like in TARP, and have his aide send me the form letter, the same one he sent to other constituents (I checked). The letter will be full of illogic and ignorance but boil down to "if we don't pass this bill, the deficit will explode" (yes, that's exactly what he said when he passed TARP).
Maybe Boehner is useless, I really don't know. But I do know that the only way to keep Obama from steamrolling his bill through the RINOs in the House is to make it to the cliff so that the D Senators who are much more beholden to industry will come begging for a deal. The only way to get to the cliff is to accept all offers in public, and carefully consider them in private. Make sure to get a few negative test votes before the media steamroller gets going. There is no way an angry confrontation is going to stop that steamroller, it will just fuel it.
“Boehner beens paid off...”
Watch those tears now, Chuck.
Some people cling to the belief that people like Boehner are outmaneuvered, outsmarted or they just keep making mistakes. The fact is the GOP is in on it scheme every bit as much as the Dems. They play their part, some better than others, as they herd us to the same destination. Even if there are some well-meaning politicians, they are probably intimidated into being silent for the most part.
“The Constitution is the law of the land”
Yes, including the 10th amendment. I will be on the phone Monday morning to my TX state rep and senator, to make sure they understand how strongly I oppose TX setting up one of these health exchanges, and that if they even think about raising taxes to support an exchange, I will remember that at the next election.
I agree, but we won’t make it to the cliff if we lose the ObamaTARP vote (see my latest post)
I realize that they don’t want to risk the Media blow-back.. The idea is to coordinate with the Tea Party to identify a candidate to replace him or her the moment before they vote for a raise in the Debt Ceiling..
The Luger and Simpson moment will awaken the sleeping giant within.. This is the only way to fight back now while we still have an economy to save..
We effectively have a one party system and a rudderless supreme court looming in the near-term, and now the real Progre$$ive Party leader steps to the mic.. Who are they fooling? no one. who will vote for them time and time again? say ‘Hi neighbor.’
TO Hope for Change is to vote out the bums that got ya in this mess.. if not this election cycle, in the next and the next ..
