Beyond Petraeus Biographer’s TV Interviews, a Family-Focused Life

WASHINGTON — Paula Broadwell became a fixture around the Kabul headquarters of the American-led coalition in Afghanistan soon after Gen. David H. Petraeus assumed command in June 2010. She was seen as ambitious and as a striver who aimed to join Washington’s national security elite, and she drew resentment from officers for playing up her connection to their boss.

In television interviews, Ms. Broadwell — a Petraeus biographer whose affair with him led to his resignation on Friday as director of the central intelligence — appears assertive and confident, appearing on “The Daily Show” sporting bare, toned arms that have been the subject of considerable comment on Twitter and elsewhere.

But back in her home city of Charlotte, N.C., a far more nuanced, even ordinary, picture has emerged of the woman at the center of Washington’s latest sex scandal.

There, neighbors say, Ms. Broadwell is the soccer mom, married to a radiologist, who serves her family dinner by candlelight and walks her two boys to the bus stop every morning before school. She is the nice woman in the two-story brick house who wore a costume to hand out candy on Halloween.

She is the friendly neighbor who organized an impromptu backyard barbecue to welcome newcomers to the neighborhood. She is the super-busy woman who raises money for veterans’ support groups and takes time to mentor her friends’ children — especially girls — by reading their school papers and introducing them to soldiers they might interview.

“It wasn’t uncommon to look in their dining room at night and see the candles lit as they were eating,”said Sarah Curme, a neighbor and friend. “Nobody put Paula on a pedestal; it was more about Paula the neighbor, the mom and the wife than it was about everything else she did.”

Why is the NYTs making this whore out to be Donna Reed?—that’s the first question that pops into my mind. And it’s an interesting one.

I would like to know who paid her way to Afghanistan. How much did her shacking up with the General cost US? And who exactly sent her and who exactly approved her mission?

More good questions. I read that she was “embedded” with Petreus for a year. Doesn’t she have two small children? Did she leave them behind for a year? And what kind of a stupid sap is her husband?

I saw her biceps and thought maybe she’d been hitting the testosterone. Look at her man hands, too. Kinda tranny.

Must be new neighbors as it is not possible for the above to have been said for over a year. Well that is unless she got frequent flier miles via some military transport jet. So Petraeus gets sent to Afghanistan in 2010 and not long after this broad some how gets sent on a mission to write a tell tale book about the frisky general. And out of the wild blue yonder the general gets a promotion to head the CIA???

I have not read much on the hubby, he probably is trying to protect his kids from hearing the gossip about their slutty mother.

Yep, “reversal of sexual dimorphism.” Males become effete, females become manly and aggressive. She will even probably end up raising her kids with low-investment single-parenting.

There is not an aspect of politics I can find which isn’t clearly predicted and explained by r/K selection theory.

If I was the hubby I’d dump the disgusting whore and take the kids far away from her, and leave her to her push-up competition with the high brass. ..........and can’t P4 get disciplined by the military, maybe spend some time in the brig?

Given the ego to get him here, Petraeus is in hell right now, and will be for sometime to come. He was master of the universe, and never will be again. The brig is probably just a redundant waste of money.

The sad thing with the bimbo is the kids, because they won’t understand any of it, beyond the fact Mommy will be gone, or Daddy will be gone, and their whole world will be destroyed, through no fault of their own, and for no perceptible reason.

If it was me, I’d like to think I might hang around for the kids, and play pretend until they are all 18. Then again, Mommy is a self-absorbed whore, so are they better with her or without her?

Bad answers all around. Best to just avoid the manjawed guy-wannabe in the first place.
