Election triggers gun sales

Gun manufacturer stocks are a hot commodity on Wall Street in the wake of Tuesday's election.

Gun shop owners are reaping the benefits, too.

Some are selling ten times what they normally do as customers load up.

"Our ammo and our guns have literally been flying off the shelf," says Rich Chatmas, co-owner of The Gun Cleaners in Waco, Texas.

It's been the trend at the gun shop, especially over the last two days.

Customer Brian Richardson has been anticipating President Obama's re-election for months.

"I was a little concerned, because I know that the current president is real big on banning guns, especially assault rifles," he said.

So he stocked up on a rifle, two pistols and ammunition.

"It's usually full, but not only are we selling, it, but we're actually having trouble getting it in," Chatmas said. "We've done several thousands of dollars worth of gun sales in the last couple days, and I know our brothers and sisters in the bigger gun stores, they're doing hundreds of thousands of gun sales," said Rich.

That's ten times what he usually sells.

My sister and I, plus my three daughters (all single women who voted for Romney) are going to buy guns and get training. We are completely clueless on the best gun we should buy. Any suggestions? We will do research, but I know the Freepers have the best knowledge!

I have several neighbors, practically begging me to sell them a couple of my choice, “fully-accessorized”, non-Class III firearms. With the kind of outrageous cash they’re toting, I’m tempted. They could get newer models, but wo/ accessories, at the local armorers’ shops, at much cheaper prices, but they’re after my collection’s “excess”. We have to legally transfer handguns thru FFL, anyway. I was doing “demos” for them Friday at my private range, and was re-amazed at the pieces’ performance. Might have to reconsider selling and just keep them.

My 88-year-old former father-in-law has a theory that they're trying to herd all the gun owners into what used to be the Confederate states, so they can start that crap all over again.

I can't find a reason to disagree with him.

Apparently, you better go get whatever is available.

Likely the only sector of the economy that isn’t laying people off.

My 2 cents is to learn on a .22 rifle and/or pistol. The NRA probably has classes in your area on learning to shoot. Good luck!

I would have thought that people would have stocked up in the first 2 years of the obozo regime.

For home defense, I’d suggest you start with a pump shotgun. A Mossberg 500 or Remington 870. A 20 gauge does not kick as much but still effective at close range. For concealed carry or vehicle use, go to a shooting range that rents guns and try several to see what you like. Don’t go cheap.

I’m glad I bought some ammo before the election. I was going to go to the gun show today, but figured it would be a little too crazy after Tuesday’s election.

The one bright spot in the economy and Obama will try to ban it.

I attended the world’s largest gun show this weekend in Tulsa. It was a madhouse especially for ammo sales.

Was at my favorite gun store & range Friday morning @ 10am. Took the Mrs. to the range for her first practice in a very long time. She shoots a Glock 17 Gen III, me my perennial favorite an HnK USP9.

At 10am on a Friday morning we got the second to last lane on the gun range available (10 lanes in total.) We spent about 2 hours, some of which was my correcting her grip and stance when she failed to hit the target (silhouette @ 25'.) Thankfully she's easy to teach and it wasn't long before she was hitting center mass reliably with the Glock 17, so I handed her my HnK. Third shot she hit center mass and emptied the clip carving out a hole @ center mass in the paper. That's my girl!

We went through a little over 200 rounds of ammunition between us, and as we exited the range saw that there was a WAITING LIST for a lane on the range. The gun store I go to had recently remodeled more than DOUBLING their space to about 7,000 SF and there were customers EVERYWHERE.

We browsed a bit picking up some new ammunition for the Rock River LAR-15 I'd purchased about 6 weeks ago now and left. The parking lot was full, two people were waiting for the spot my vehicle was parked in as I left.

One last thing: There's a picture of Herr Obama in the store with the words "Salesman of the Year" underneath it.

Boy, I know they're sure right!

Be careful about a pistol that requires strength (you may not have) to rack the slide and chamber a round. And some double-actions like the Walther PPK may have an initial trigger pull that throws off your first shot.
A revolver possibly if you want a .357 with .38 option, and you don’t leave any brass behind. A Glock maybe, although rookies carrying them in condition one make me nervous to be around, or you might look at the Beretta Tomcat: You can flip the barrel and load the first round manually.
Rugers new .38 revolvers are quality, light and not that expensive.

Wow. I thought about going to that Tulsa gun show. I’m glad I didn’t, I guess, not crazy about madhouses.

Trying to buy my first gun and I know little. Do you recommend a gun show to do that, or better to go to a storefront dealer?

“Lucky dog, I’ve always wanted to hit the Tulsa show.”

Been there many times and I always say, you have not been to a gun show if you haven’t been to Tulsa. It has to be seen to realize how big it is.
