Just about no one is more restrictive than New Jersey, where I live. (California's Brady "score" is higher on details, but as far as actual restrictions in law, I think N.J. is tops.) Do what I do. Go to the web page for the Brady campaign's state scorecards (http://www.bradycampaign.org/stategunlaws/scorecard/) -- and find the "reddest" state that is near you. Take a Saturday road trip and THAT is where you should get your guns, ammo, and information. Illinois has several good nearby choices, the best of which is Kentucky.

Bear in mind, I believe that all states are bound under a crappy, unConstitutional federal law requiring that out-of-state purchasers must have handgun purchases transferred to FFL dealers in their home states. (Should not affect rifle/shotgun purchases.) If you have a friend in the other state who may be interested in assisting your purchase, well now, I suppose that's between you and him.....
