When I read the ADN opinion page the day after the election I could have sworn I lived in Seattle.

What a bunch of lefty loons live in Anchorage.

I’m glad I’m isolated from there.

Ya, there sure is several different Alaskas to be found.

We are somewhat isolated up here too from everything, actually enjoy the road being closed half the year. What bothers me is even up here, we have almost half the community signed up for all the govt freebies. Seems like every Spring, a family moves in, working the system in any way that they can. I guess it goes on everywhere, but people here still remember when the first welfare queen came to town and how the disease seems to have spread with disability, energy assistance, food stamps, free medical & flights & motels for their shopping trips, and on and on and on. Depressing, but many people just ignore the scourge and live their lives how they were raised.

Eventually, 100 bucks won't buy a loaf of bread and it will all come to a stop. All ya can do is prepare for the future, get the supplies in while the dollar still has some value, and keep your eye on the import things, (family, spirituality, and freedom).

And yet, I have friends that can't even envision this future ever coming to pass, ha ha. Even in-laws that temper their humor with questions about moving here, ha.

No joke though, I've never experienced the freedom I have here anywheres else I have ever lived, staying put, minus 15 and all.

They'll never cash out the PFD, they want all of it and will get it someday; but just think about all the fun we will have in the process; keeping them from it that is.

I don't see Alaska ever seceding as we are becoming more like the East Coast Americans everyday, though it might be a very slow boiling of the frog.

We still have way more freedom than found anywhere else within the USA.

Ha. I think you meant to direct yer comment elsewhere. Alaska is somewhat schizo, IMHO. Trying to live off of oil revenues to finance overspending by the state.

What began as a pair of parallel stunts appears to have gathered steam. Other than Louisiana and Texas, states with secession-related petitions pending on the White House website now include Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Three states – Georgia, Missouri and South Carolina are each represented by two competing petitions.

If those petitions have any names/email addys on them, I’m wondering if DHS is adding them to 0bummer’s Enemies List.

The Constitution says that the Federal government can only claim military bases, post offices and the roads in between. In Alaska, they did not even bother to build the roads. You cannot drive to the State Capitol, there is no road. No roads to most towns.

But they do own all the rights to all the oil... Alaska has all the Lower 48 needs, and would love to develop it, but the Federal Government says no.

Where does all this "tremendous money drain" go? I think if you look at the actual dollar amounts, far less money goes to alaska than goes to any other state. The people who want to complain about the ungrateful Alaskans who are trying to develop the frontier with both hands tied behind our backs, always couch their figures in a per capita way. After all, since only 600 thousand people survive the winters up here to try and make a living, every dollar spent on the federal park that is larger than your entire state looks real impressive, if you charge it to the 600k.

How about you charge it to the square mile?, heck, throw in all the private property for free. We get less money than ANY State.

That the problem with statistics, its damn easy to whip the sheeple in a frenzy with them.

Alaska gets less dollars per square mile of land taken by the federal government than any place, including Hamas in Palestine. And that is why I have a bad attitude. You are a victim of Class warfare against people you have never met.

Get over it, and know your true enemy. The Feds who personally TOOK YOUR MONEY, not Alaskans.

Thank you for your time.
