The President's Tax Bludgeon

President Obama's appearance on Friday in the White House East Room, his first public remarks since his re-election Tuesday. If the President wanted to send a gesture of magnanimity in victory, this wasn't it.

Though the campaign is over, the event was staged like a campaign event, complete with a multi-ethnic backdrop for the cameras, a cheering crowd and no media questions. The President said he is "open to compromise" and isn't "wedded to every detail" of his budget proposals. He invited Congressional leaders of both parties to the White House to talk next week. Most of the speech repeated what he was saying in Ohio two weeks ago. And on the vexed question of taxes, the central dispute in the debate over the looming 2013 fiscal cliff, Mr. Obama said he will insist that taxes go up on anyone who makes more than $250,000 a year. Obama also demanded that House Republicans immediately pass a Senate bill extending current tax rates for lower incomes but not for everyone else, including the millions of small businesses that pay taxes at the individual rates.

Obama's hard line will cheer his left flank, which wants him to drive Republicans into submission on taxes and everything else. Apart from the joy of humiliating the GOP, the calculation seems to be that tax rates don't matter to the economy. So raise rates with impunity, pocket the extra revenue, and only then discuss whether to cut any spending or reform the tax code or entitlements.

In the movie "Gettysburg", there is a scene where Col. Strong Vincent directs Col. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain to hold Little Round Top at any cost. As Chamberlain nods his head, Vincent says, "Now we'll see how professors fight." (Chamberlain was a professor of rhetoric at Bowdoin college in Maine.)

Well, now we see the flip side of such patriotism. Now, with Obama's second term, we shall see how Communists govern.

The President said he is "open to compromise"

He said this several times in his first term as he walked all over conservatives, didn't compromise at all, and attained every socialist goal he attempted.

His idiot supporters, however, will continue to swoon at what an inclusive, magnanimous, leader he is.

It’s too late for us to fight him now!

Anyone who didn’t vote for Romney is a Traitor to this country. Whether Liberal or Conservative>
We will never have a conservative or rino president again.

It will be socialists and commies like Zero forever and this country will be like California in 10 Years.

We fought the Mexicans for years, for what! They are going to do to USA as they Did in California!

Romney Loved this country as much as any one of us and we conservatives spoke bad of him.

Now we got what we deserve, Obama and ObamaCare, and Calification of our our country.

If the Repubs cave on Obama's plan the Dems will call it a tax hike for the next 20-years.
It's a plot for power and nothing but pure political rhetoric that they've
used for decades. And the Repubs fall for it almost every time.

It will be spun as "Raising taxes on the rich" and we should all know this.
But when talked about, the word "rich" will be omitted by the MSM for impact.

Well I know that the election is over(though not certified) but can’t the middle class morons that voted for this a$$ realize that a return to the “clinton rates” will do nothing to the debt and defeceit? That they are the target?

The fact that NO ONE is even verbally contesting the election and VOTER FRAUD in the battlegound state which are evident (look at West in Florida) leads us all to believe the GOP and the rest in DC are confortable with thier newly unelected leader and we will get no help let alone a fight from any of them in the future. The coup was successful... we lose

On the flip side of your post - God has decreed that we will degenerate into a cesspool before He returns to set things right. Just as it was decreed that Jesus had to die for us, His Will will not be denied.

Well, no, they can't.
I had been arguing with a numskull in another forum who insisted that if the top 2%, "the rich", paid "a little more" (3% more in taxes) obama would be taking 3% of their wealth - that would put more money "in the system" and save the economy.

What "system" is that? and WTH does that do to reduce the debt? which all CBO projections show continuing to climb. the debt ceiling will be raised to $18 TRILLION before inauguration day. I bet it will be $20 TRILLION before the 2014 electuons.

If you resist this idiocy or even question it, you are a h8ter and a rasist

Such people are asinine. And they are the majority now holding power.
