I wouldn’t expect much from the government on this. God forbid they have to actually to their jobs to catch these criminals.

“I got drunk and met a man in a bar, and . . . .”

I guess I’d better not go there. Look what happened to Akin.

You suffer from extremely poor comprehension reading skills.

She didn’t say she got drunk, she was drugged. Date rape drugs do exist.

Yes, date rape drugs do exist and so do rapists! And get this, they both exist in bars!

What’s the lesson a conservative should learn?

- Raise taxes to pay for rape kits.

or

- Don’t hang out in bars.

All that testing would divert precious money that otherwise could be spent on pay for unionized workers (cops).

Right, because rapes only take place in bars.

Perhaps the better solution is weed through waste and use the funds to actually fight crime.

Well, I confess I only read the part of the article that was posted in the forum.

On the other hand, I don’t think it’s the smartest idea in the world to drink with or pick up strangers in bars, or to go into bars alone, without a friend or two to watch your back.

It’s a free world. But I think it’s probably better to avoid drinking with strangers in bars, or agreeing to leave with them, than it is to have a date-rape kit so you can send the rapist to jail after you get raped. Rather limited satisfaction in that.

In other words, avoid the situations where you get date-raped, and things will go better.

I agree that it’s not safe, and obviously wasn’t a good idea. But I also don’t think that the victim is at fault, and the police need to spend funds to catch criminals.

What about the women who don’t meet their rapist in a bar? How about those that meet their rapist while they are in their home or out jogging- or at the mall? Rapists should be caught and it seems evidence to do so may likely be found by testing a rape kit. Many rapists are serial rapists and some become serial killers as well. If not caught they are loose to pray on all women.

“Raise taxes to pay for rape kits or don’t hang out in bars”.

It isn’t that simple. I am sure the police department is adequately funded. The money is probably being diverted from the lab budget to other things. I don’t blame this victim one bit for being outraged that “her” rape DNA test results were considered “not necessary”.

Secondly, I know a homicide/rape detective. There are no one time rapists. All rapists are serial rapists. So the rapists that preys on a woman in a bar today will be the rapist that preys on a woman in a park, public library, mall parking lot, community college or hospital parking lot tomorrow. By entering the DNA from a rape into a nationwide computer system, you raise the possibility of actually catching the bad guy.

So women should give up freedom in exchange for security so that the government can continue to waste taxpayer dollars rather than actually do the job that government is supposed to do.

Obama logic.

There are no one time rapists. All rapists are serial rapists.

Same with child molesters. I've never had the local LE follow through on anything I've reported over the last 20 years. Even doing the footwork for them, everything goes into file 13 so this story isn't surprising.

I am beyond cynical when it comes to LE and their use of their budgets. Want to bet if the daughter, wife, sister or mother of a LEO is raped that their kit is processed? What sickens me is what the rape victim consents to for the kit in order to catch the perp. They are photographed, every bruise/cut is noted, an internal exam/swabs by a doctor, their hair is combed through (all places), their fingernails scrapped and they go over every detail over and over. When I was in college, I worked security for a hospital and sometimes it required me to be a female witness in the room. Many times, the rape victim just wanted to go home, shower and try to get on with their lives. What pushed many of these women to consent was the statement, “If we can catch your rapist, no other girl/woman will have to be raped by him.” Many of the victims endured the kit in order to prevent another person from being attacked.

Well then, you “conservatives” have decided that raising taxes, rather than responsible behavior, will solve ALL rapes.

Very expansive of you.

You believe only those that are not behaving are raped? Really? Many women that are raped are at home in their bed sleeping and awaken to a stranger raping them. What did those women do wrong?

I think law enforcement should use their funding more wisely, I do think rape kits and other evidence should be processed as it helps catch repeat offenders and get them off the street.

Many law enforcement agencies spend the majority of their funding for military gear and military type training. I would rather they divert some of those funds to evidence testing.

Yes, we should totally lock women away so as to prevent taxes from being raised to fund finding criminals.

I totally forgot that rapists never break into homes or anything.

“you conservatives have decided that raising taxes, rather than responsible behavior will solve all rapes”

What I suggested is that the police budget be arranged so that their lab run efficiently to protect the citizens that pay taxes that go to law enforcement. I really balk at the concept that a woman drinking in a bar is somehow responsible to be brutalized. What about the woman jogging in a park? Is she responsible? What about a woman living alone... is she responsible? Or, how about a case that is somewhat near my area... an old woman raped in her nursing home bed. Is she responsible? I don’t believe that a person suggesting the POLICE DO THEIR DARN JOB is expansive. Responsible, yes.. not expansive. Have a good day!
