For those who don't remember --- LIPA was created when Cuomo's father, Governor Mario Cuomo, took over the former Long Island Lighting Company and scrapped its Shoreham nuclear power station. It contracts out actual operations to a private company, National Grid, but sets policy - including such matters as updating computer systems, maintaining the wires and utility poles, and staffing for emergencies.

Another fine example of “Your Tax Dollars At Work”. LIPA = CRAP.

Ironically National Grid has one of the best Outage tracking systems that can zoom to street level.

Not to misdirect your topic, but as bad as things are on Long Is. my understanding is they are TEN times worse on Staten Island. Very little assistance has arrived. Media dropped the ball on this. to be expected all things considered...

Thanks for answering a question I had about Long Island Lighting. I was wondering what had happened to this utility.
When I was in the coal business, I remember listing to a Long Island Lighting executive recount the excesses of Mr. Cuomo and his associates. I remember the excuse for scrapping the nuke was the lack of an evacuation plan...

There is nothing that is done poorly that cannot be done much more poorly using union labor.

Those goons need competition, but they don’t have to worry about that in a blue state.

And - until they realize that and shove the union workers up their own smelly Obamas - they’ll continue to freeze to death in the dark.

Well, the answer is obvious: beat up any Florida lineman present who might actually have the experience and competence to get the power restored.

no gubmint-owned facility is ever a failure. it’s just “underfunded”.
