Store Owner Shoots, Kills Man Who Demands Money: Cops(PA)

A store owner shot and killed a man in North Philadelphia Wednesday night after that man kicked in a cashier's booth after demanding money, according to Philadelphia Police.

The shooting happened around 6:20 p.m. inside the corner store at W Somerset and N Hutchinson Streets.

Police on the scene say the shooting victim, described as a man in his late 20s or early 30s, and the 69-year-old store owner got into some kind of argument. At some point during the disagreement the younger man demanded money and the store owner locked himself inside the cashier's booth, according to the store owner.

The store owner said that the younger man then kicked in the door and got into a physical altercation with him. At some point during the fight the store owner shot the other man in the chest, police said.

The younger man was unarmed. This is still a clearly justified use of deadly force because he was a deadly threat due to his actions. Twice as many people are murdered in the United States with fists and feet than are murdered with rifles.
