GOP gives a top House spot to a woman

One of the top leadership positions in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives will go to Cathy McMorris Rodgers, who represents Washington state. The move comes after Republicans fared poorly with female voters in last week' election.

Stinging from double-digit election losses among female voters, House Republicans elected a woman to their top leadership team Wednesday in a tense test of gender politics and the clout of the GOP's power brokers.

The election of Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington state to the No. 4 leadership position among House Republicans dispatches conservative favorite Tom Price of Georgia, who had been endorsed by Mitt Romney's running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin. House Speaker John Boehner didn't take sides, but McMorris Rodgers was considered the leadership favorite.

Newly elected Rep. Susan Brooks of Indiana said it was important to have a woman in a top role.

"It does show our party values strong female leadership," Brooks said of McMorris Rodgers' election. She said she expects the party now to "try and do a better job of getting our message out to a broader audience."

The race for such an obscure post carried big symbolism after women voted for Democrats by an 11-point margin in the presidential and generic congressional races, according to an exit poll by The Associated Press and television networks. Republicans widely decried their party's domination by white males, and Democrats declared themselves the party of diversity.

In the Senate, the GOP was once thought to be poised to gain control of the chamber but instead lost two seats to Democrats. In the House, Republicans retained the majority but lost as many as eight seats, with some races still uncalled. And Obama defeated Romney 332-206 in the Electoral College.

Pity that Michelle Bachmann isn’t the Speaker. That would have just been so....cool.

Yet another RINO back-stabber in a “leadership” position.

Any real conservative women (or minorities) will be destroyed. Only go-along women (or minorities) will be supported or beloved.

Sarah Palin, bad. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Olympia Snowe, good. Bachmann, bad. Mcmorris-Rodgers, good. And I’m sure the republican establishment just LOOOOVVVED the hyphen!

I just wish the House Republicans would give their top spot to a man.

Doesn’t matter. The media says Republicans hate women and so that’s that.
We lost because the GOP was totally disorganized and not aggressive in registering voters, contacting voters, pushing to win.

I keep wondering when the conservative media will address this. Seems like no one is going to. We will always lose with the limp d-— idiots now in charge of the GOP. We do not have a hope with the aristocrats in charge of the party.

And nobody’s talking about the laziness, corruption and arrogance at the top of the GOP.

Putting women in leadership roles? It is to laugh.

As expected the Vichy Republican “leadership” selects another Democrat collaborator to join their ranks.

(Rodgers) head and shoulders above her Cherokee state mate Ms. Warren. Mrs. Rodgers appears to be all American.

McMorris Rogers is fine; I don’t expect politicians to be perfect. Nice to see a strong pro-life woman in office. Grew up on a farm, married to a veteran. Seems to me she may be more in touch with America than most Congresscritters.

Only if or when the Republicans realize that they “didn’t do well” among Conservatives, will they do the smart thing.

They do not listen to Conservatives. They are oblivious to Conservatives. And Conservatives will do well to realize this.

People can deny it to their heart’s content but Michele Bachmann has some serious steel in her.

She won the house seat in 06 and was stripped of funding by the NRCC in 08 but won the seat anyway. In 2010 the democrats made defeating her a top priority and she won anyway. In 2012 she ran a pretty respectable presidential campaign for an upstart and then went on to defend her house seat against the democrats again in the face of attacks from the likes of John McCain.

She’s become quite the iron lady with intel cred to boot. (member of the permanent select committee on intelligence)

They’re jsut always behind the times. Out of touch, fluffy, backstabbing, hypocritical and, well, stupid.

They can’t hide it.

I agree. I’ve been impressed with Ms. Blackburn for some time, and wouldn’t have minded seeing her as a VP candidate.
