Islamic Jihad claims rocket fire at Tel Aviv

GAZA CITY, Palestinian Territories (AFP) - The armed wing of the radical Islamic Jihad on Thursday said it had fired an Iranian-built rocket at the Israeli city of Tel Aviv.

"The Quds Brigades hit the occupied city of Tel Rabea (Tel Aviv) with a Fajr 5 rocket causing a large explosion to shake the city," the group said in a brief statement, shortly after an AFP correspondent reported seeing a rocket land in the water south of the sprawling coastal city.

"What comes next will be greater," the statement added.

In a separate statement, posted on the group's website, spokesman Abu Ahmed pledged that Israel would experience "further surprises so long as the aggression against the Palestinian people continues."

"The enemy began the battle but the resistance will determine how the battle will end," he said.

“Occupied”? Before the Israeli built it Mark Twain described it as “a pile of sand about 25 feet high”. BTW, he called it Tel Aviv.

Could be propaganda but there are reports on twitter that a ground invasion of Gaza has begun.

Iranian Fajr-5 (Dawn-5) missile:

Designed as a Chinise MLRS clone ... said to have started after late 1980s/early 1990s.

Manufacturer:

Aerospace Industries Organization, Sanam Industrial Group, Defense Industries Organization[1][2]

Specifications:

Weight: 15,000 kg (System), 90 kg (HE Content), 175 kg (Warhead)

Effective range: 68-75 km (35 miles)

The Fajr-5 (Persian: فجر-۵‎, meaning "Dawn-5") is an artillery rocket developed by Iran in the 1990s. The system is part of the Fajr family of rockets.

The latest production of the Fajr-5 is installed on a new Mercedes-Benz 6 x 6 forward control chassis[4] and the platform is now integrated into a complete weapon system rather than an individual launcher.

To provide a more stable firing platform four hydraulically operated stabilizers are lowered to the ground before firing.

The new chassis has improved cross-country mobility and the forward control fully enclosed cab provides space for the driver and two passengers.

Another fully enclosed cabin to the immediate rear of the cab houses the remainder of the crew. The new Mercedes-Benz chassis is similar to that manufactured in China, which is used as the basis for the Norinco (China North Industries Corporation) 122 mm (40-round) Type 90 ARS.

While the primary role of this artillery rocket system is the engagement of land targets, AIO says that a radar can be added to give the system the capability to track and engage naval targets.

The Fajr-5 missile, which is launched from a mobile platform, reportedly has a range of 75 kilometers (50 mi).

Also a two stage version of the rocket is reported to be produced with a length of 9 m and range of 190 km. But this variant is launched from TELs similar to Zelzal missiles which only has the capacity for a single rocket.[5]

The first Fajr-5 were created when China exported WS-1 MLRS to Iran in the late 1980s/early 1990s.[6] They were then subsequently created and produced by Aerospace Industries Organization.

In May 2006, Iran's Aerospace Industries Organization (AIO) has developed an upgraded version of the well-established Fajr-5 333 mm (4-round) unguided surface-to-surface artillery rocket system (ARS).[7]

=======================================

Today's two (2) launches wre designed as a "probing attack" to test Israeli Iron Dome missile defense system.

Undoubtedly ... Chinese-Soviets were electronically monitoring Isreali signal traffic and defensive posture, on behalf of the Iranian Dogs.

It's reported that Iran's conducting a massive air-defensive practice run for the next couple of days ...

I suspect that its the ONLY way Iran can protect its airforce from Israeli detruction via a premptive attack ...

The key here is Egypt's Moselm Brotherhood, and its questionable control of the Egyptian Military.

If the Arabs had any sense they'd start a gang-fight with Israel ... Egypt, Iran, Syria and Hezbolla-Hamas.

Fortunately for Israel, they aren't intelligent enough for that ...

and of course, Egypt has the Asan High Damn that's already been pre-targeted by Israeli (non-nuclear) ballastic missiles ... or perhaps just conventional cruise missiles.

And then there's Obama .... who DESPERATELY needs a "positive distraction" from the unfolding Benghazi Scandal.

Benghazi is causing Obama FAR WORSE problems than either Axelrod or the NYT will admit to.

How so ?

The damned Secretary of State (Hilliary) clearly REFUSES to back Obama up on this one ...

that's why Obama was FORCED to trot-out Susan Rice yesterday ...

and Obama ... despite his calm demeanor ... must be ROYALLY PISSED that Clinton is effectively telling him ...

"just put some ice on that" ...

Having almost been Goliathed by hard candy at my Bar Mitzvah at the Western Wall, I can tell you that Israeli's can throw candy well. So could my American sister.
