Doesn’t Maine do voter registration? Why would registrars in a “lilly-white” town allow non-registered voters to just show up and vote? Does that make sense to you?
On the other hand, if there are black people living in the town boundaries, and we have GOP people running around saying “I’ve never seen any black people”, that just plays into the stereotype of racism that we are saddled with.
People can register and vote on the same day.
All they need is a phone bill, easily forged.
